Job description
Director 80 - 100%
Connecting art, history, and the present – leading a unique museum into its next phase of development.
Between Impressionism, historical significance, and a vibrant cultural hub: The Museum Langmatt in Baden is among the most important private collections of French Impressionism in Europe. The interplay of art, architecture, and cultural exchange gives it a special radiance. Due to the retirement of the long-serving incumbent, we are seeking a professionally and personally convincing personality as
Director 80 – 100%
In this key role, you will have overall responsibility for the Museum Langmatt and will develop it further together with the Board of Trustees. You will lead a small team, be responsible for programming, collection, operations, and finances, and enjoy staying closely involved with topics and their implementation in a manageable museum setting. This includes exhibitions, events, and education, curatorial collection work, collaborations, and the further development of the pavilion and rooms as venues for art, education, and encounters. You will cultivate funding partnerships, secure additional resources, and represent the Langmatt to the public, politics, media, and the professional world.
For this special task, we are looking for an experienced individual who can bring together art, people, and operations, and who enjoys leading a museum with a distinct profile with commitment and foresight. You know museum work from your own experience, have realized exhibitions, worked with collections, and co-developed educational or event formats. A degree in art history or a related field, as well as knowledge of 19th and early 20th-century European art, ideally French Impressionism, forms a solid professional foundation. Equally important are knowledge of contemporary art, leadership competence, business acumen, networked thinking, and convincing interaction with funding partners and sponsors. You communicate confidently in German; very good English skills are required.
Bring your experience, your ideas, and your personality to the next phase of development at the Langmatt. We look forward to receiving your complete application by October 21, 2026.
