Position Title

Director – School of Legal Studies


Reporting To

Vice Chancellor


Role Purpose

The Director – School of Legal Studies shall provide academic, administrative, and operational leadership for the School of Legal Studies. The role is responsible for ensuring excellence in legal education, faculty development, student outcomes, research, industry and judicial engagement, accreditation compliance, and institutional growth. The Director shall drive the execution of the School's academic vision while fostering a culture of professional ethics, legal scholarship, and societal impact.


Key Responsibilities


1. Academic Leadership & Program Management

  • Oversee the effective delivery of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in Law.
  • Ensure compliance with academic regulations, curriculum requirements, and quality standards.
  • Monitor academic planning, examinations, student progression, and learning outcomes.
  • Drive continuous improvement in teaching, learning, and assessment practices.

2. Faculty Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and supervise faculty members within the School.
  • Monitor faculty performance in teaching, research, institutional contribution, and student engagement.
  • Promote faculty development through training, research opportunities, and professional development initiatives.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance academic culture.

3. Student Development & Academic Success

  • Monitor student performance, attendance, progression, and retention.
  • Strengthen student mentoring and academic support mechanisms.
  • Encourage participation in moot court competitions, legal aid activities, debates, mediation competitions, mock trials, and other co-curricular activities.
  • Promote holistic development and professional readiness among students.

4. Legal Research & Scholarly Activities

  • Promote research, publications, case studies, policy papers, and interdisciplinary legal scholarship.
  • Encourage faculty and student participation in research projects, conferences, and academic forums.
  • Support establishment and growth of research centres, legal clinics, and policy initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Dean – Research to strengthen research output and impact.

5. Industry, Judicial & Professional Engagement

  • Build relationships with law firms, courts, judicial academies, regulatory bodies, corporate legal departments, arbitration centres, and professional associations.
  • Facilitate internships, legal clerkships, industry projects, expert lectures, and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Promote collaborations with legal practitioners, judges, senior advocates, and policymakers.

6. Accreditation, Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure compliance with Bar Council of India (BCI), UGC, NAAC, NIRF, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain academic documentation and records required for accreditation and statutory reporting.
  • Lead quality enhancement initiatives and academic audits within the School.

7. Admissions & Outreach

  • Support student recruitment, admissions activities, and outreach initiatives.
  • Participate in academic counseling sessions, school outreach programs, and promotional activities.
  • Contribute to strategies aimed at enhancing student quality and enrollment outcomes.

8. Resource & Operational Management

  • Ensure effective utilization of faculty, infrastructure, moot court facilities, legal databases, and academic resources.
  • Support budgeting, resource planning, and operational effectiveness within the School.
  • Ensure smooth functioning of all academic and administrative activities.

9. Stakeholder Management

  • Collaborate with the Dean, Heads of Departments, faculty members, students, alumni, industry partners, and administrative offices.
  • Facilitate communication between School leadership and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Represent the School in academic, professional, and institutional forums.

10. Strategic Execution

  • Support the Dean in implementing the School's strategic objectives and growth plans.
  • Monitor key academic and operational performance indicators.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation, program expansion, academic partnerships, and institutional development.

Qualification & Experience

  • LL.M. and Ph.D. in Law from a recognized University.
  • Minimum 12–15 years of teaching, research, and academic administration experience in higher education institutions.
  • Demonstrated experience in academic leadership, legal education, research, accreditation, and institutional development.
  • Strong understanding of BCI, UGC, NAAC, NIRF, and other regulatory frameworks applicable to legal education.
  • Proven record of scholarly publications, academic contributions, and professional engagement.
