Diesel Fleet Mechanic (In House | Pukehina!)

Full Time

Job description

About Southern Cross Horticulture
We are recruiting for our client Southern Cross Horticulture (SCH).
SCH is driven by a mission to create and manage the worlds best kiwifruit orchards. They are known for their incredible developments and for delivering industry leading productive outcomes from the orchards they own & manage.

Family owned for over 40 years, the team at SCH are inspired by the opportunity to add value to each other, their customers, stakeholders and the community.

From the moment you walk in the door, or onto an orchard, the first thing you'll notice is the kind of people SCH attracts; they are humble and approachable, completely without pretence. They know their stuff and have put the effort in to become world class in their roles, and they are pushing forward, focused on making every development and every orchard world class.

What does SCH actually do?
Primarily across the Bay of Plenty, SCH manages hundreds of hectares of Gold and Red kiwifruit. At any one point in time they are engaged in the planning and development of multiple new orchards. This requires a lot of vehicles and machinery! That's where you come in!

About the role
As the business (and fleet) has grown, it has become clear there will be significant value in creating a functional workshop at the Pukehina site and bringing on a full time diesel mechanic. You will be the go to person for servicing and repair of a large range of vehicles and machinery used in the management and construction of kiwifruit orchards.

Reporting to the Contracting Business Manager, this role has some exciting additions to the ‘on the tools’ work. You’ll also be:
  • Building and managing maintenance schedules for vehicles and machinery;
  • Putting an off-road repair and system in place; and
  • Implementing service call outs on orchard when necessary.
What you can expect
  • A competitive base salary (or pay rate if you prefer) & work vehicle.
  • A great job, right in the middle of the BOP. Pukehina is a beautiful spot! You could move close and enjoy the lifestyle near Pukehina Beach, or commute from Tauranga, Whakatane or Rotorua.
  • A company wide incentive scheme.
  • An incredible team of kiwifruit experts so you can get an understanding of the industry if it’s new to you.
  • Respectful and supportive leadership and team.
  • Exciting projects and opportunities to develop your skills further.
Are you the one we are looking for?
This role requires a set of skills and capabilities, listed below. Does this sound like you?
  • You are a broadly experienced mechanic: You’ll have sufficient experience on the tools to be able to pick up the requirements for servicing and repair across a fleet of vehicles and other machinery.
  • You’re comfortable on the tools: While there are other elements to the role, you will be the mechanic. So you’ll need to be comfortable spending the majority of your day ‘doing’ the work.
  • You are a problem solver: You’ll have a natural ability to figure it out… People will bring issues to you, you’ll solve them. Ideally you’ll be the type of person that gets a kick out of that!
  • You want to grow: In this role, and beyond it, you’ll be someone who sees a future of being more of an expert, and widening the scope of your role over time.
  • You are a good communicator: The team will find you approachable, easy to talk to, and you’ll be good at helping them understand what they need to about the machinery they operate.
