Job description
Our client is seeking a senior DevOps / SRE Cloud Engineer to take ownership of an Azure-based Kubernetes platform. This role is suited to an experienced cloud and platform engineer who can independently manage resilient infrastructure, secure CI/CD pipelines and robust observability across production environments.
Key Responsibilities:
· Operate production Kubernetes clusters and Azure infrastructure using Terraform.
· Maintain and improve GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines with appropriate quality gates.
· Own observability, including dashboards, alerting, SLOs and incident response.
· Manage secrets, identity and network security across environments.
· Partner with engineering teams to troubleshoot incidents and improve platform reliability.
· Design and maintain scalable infrastructure and capacity planning practices.
· Support Kubernetes upgrades, workload deployments and production operations.
· Develop and maintain operational Bash scripts as tested and reliable code.
· Apply secure software supply-chain and secrets-management practices.
· Contribute to continuous improvements in platform resilience and operational excellence.
Requirements:
· 5+ years' experience in DevOps, SRE or platform engineering.
· 23 years' experience operating Kubernetes workloads in production.
· 2+ years' production experience with Azure.
· Strong Azure experience across AKS, ADLS Gen2, Azure Key Vault, Entra ID, VNets, private endpoints, firewall rules and Azure Service Bus or an equivalent message broker.
· Strong production Kubernetes experience, including Helm, environment overlays, operators, node-pool design, resource allocation, capacity sizing, troubleshooting and upgrades.
· Strong Terraform skills, including modular infrastructure-as-code and state management across environments.
· Strong Docker experience, including multi-architecture image builds, Docker Compose, health checks and resource tuning.
· Experience building and maintaining GitHub Actions pipelines for linting, testing, builds and container publishing.
· Strong Prometheus and Grafana experience, including dashboards and alerting.
· Understanding of SLO design, incident response and capacity planning.
· Strong Linux and Bash scripting skills.
· Solid secrets-management practices and understanding of workload/managed identities.
· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
· Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
Advantageous:
· Apache Spark on Kubernetes, Spark Operator, JupyterHub or Spark tuning experience.
· Hive Metastore, Trino, Apache Ranger, Delta Lake or MinIO experience.
· OpenTelemetry and OpenLineage/Marquez.
· Python and pytest experience for operational tooling and infrastructure testing.
· SQL Server and PostgreSQL administration.
· Experience with multi-tenant or regulated-data environments and controls aligned with POPIA, GDPR or ISO 27001.
