Role Purpose

The Database Administrator is responsible for the end-to-end management of enterprise database platforms that support critical business applications and integrated systems. The role focuses on ensuring high availability, security, performance, and resilience of database environments across on-premises and cloud infrastructures.This position plays a key role in database architecture design, system migrations, upgrades, disaster recovery planning, and security compliance. The Database Administrator works closely with infrastructure, cloud, security, and application teams to deliver stable, scalable, and secure data platforms that meet operational and business requirements while supporting ongoing platform modernisation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and manage enterprise database environments supporting mission-critical business applications across on-premises and cloud platforms
• Administer high-availability and disaster recovery database architectures, including replication, failover, and recovery testing to ensure business continuity
• Perform database performance monitoring, capacity planning, and optimisation to support application workloads and future growth
• Manage database upgrades, patches, and migrations with minimal downtime and risk to production systems
• Implement and enforce database security controls, access management, and compliance requirements in alignment with organisational and regulatory standards
• Support complex system migrations, platform modernisation initiatives, and cloud adoption projects involving database and application landscapes
• Conduct regular database backup validation, restore testing, and recovery simulations to ensure data resilience
• Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, security, and application teams to design integrated, scalable solutions
• Identify, analyse, and resolve database-related incidents, performance degradation, and system faults in a timely manner
• Maintain comprehensive technical documentation covering database configurations, operational procedures, and recovery processes
• Provide expert support during audits, risk assessments, and security reviews related to data platforms
• Assist application teams with database architecture design, troubleshooting, and optimisation during project delivery and ongoing operations

What We Are Looking For

• Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience working as a Database Administrator or in a closely related role
• Strong experience with relational databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, SAP HANA, MySQL, or PostgreSQL within large-scale systems
• Proven expertise in database migration, upgrades, and platform modernisation, including on-premises to cloud environments
• Solid understanding of high availability, disaster recovery, backup, and restore strategies for business-critical systems
• Demonstrated experience implementing database security, access controls, and compliance frameworks
• Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or hybrid environments) supporting enterprise database workloads
• Ability to analyse system performance, troubleshoot complex issues, and implement long-term optimisation solutions
• Strong documentation skills with experience producing operational procedures, architecture designs, and recovery plans
• Experience working closely with infrastructure, security, and application teams in multi-disciplinary environments
• Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience
