Data Scientist

As a data scientist at Trading & Optimization, you will work at the intersection of energy and AI, in a place where your work directly impacts the energy grid. Your forecast will directly drive a trading decision, and you will see the impact reflected in real-time on our dashboards. You will build a cohesive system where probabilistic forecasting, optimization, and control reinforce each other.

You will work in a team where data scientists, engineers, and traders are closely connected. There is ample room for initiative and ownership: your models will run live, and you will intervene yourself if something goes wrong. This full-time position is for 32-40 hours per week and offers a salary between €4,000 and €6,000 gross per month.

• You design and build the models that control our energy trading. You will work with linked systems such as weather forecasts, market prices, customer behavior, and the physical behavior of our VPP (Virtual Power Plant) consisting of batteries, charging stations, and solar panels.
• You bring models into production and keep them sharp. Together with engineers, you will ensure deployment, monitoring, reliability, and continuous optimization.
• You translate model quality into commercial results. Your work will reduce trading costs and increase the return on the Nexus home battery.
• You prepare our devices for a future without net metering (salderen). You will translate changing market rules into concrete model adjustments that create value for customers.
• You bring new developments into practice. You will follow AI and machine learning developments and proactively translate them into concrete experiments, such as probabilistic forecasting.

• A minimum of 3 years of experience as a data scientist and strong foundations in statistics and machine learning, with demonstrable experience in forecasting or time series.
• You write Python at a production level and have experience deploying and monitoring models in a live environment.
• Experience with or affinity for AI-assisted development, for example with Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar AI assistants.
• You think from a commercial impact perspective and support your choices with data.
• You take ownership of what you build and optimize or adjust when necessary.
• You are curious, proactive, and follow developments in AI and machine learning.
• You speak the Dutch language at a professional level.
