Job description

Your Team

The Data & Automation team is part of the OMR Tech department and acts as a Center of Excellence for data and process optimization at OMR. We create the basis for sound, data-driven decisions and smooth operations in all business units (Festival, Podstars, Reviews, Education, Jobs). We see ourselves as a strong business partner: We build bridges between complex data structures, smart automation, and real business impact.

Ready for maximum freedom in an entrepreneurial environment? Do you love building data pipelines that just run, and infrastructure everyone can rely on? Then join our team and take responsibility for the technical foundation of our data platform. With us, you don't just run pipelines: you build the data infrastructure on which the entire OMR universe makes its decisions!

Where you really make a difference

  • You will be responsible for our ELT pipeline infrastructure, developing, operating, and monitoring our Airflow DAGs on Cloud Composer, and managing our connector landscape (Airbyte, Fivetran).
  • You will build your own Airflow operators for data sources without standard connectors and connect new sources to our Data Warehouse (currently over 28 external systems).
  • You will operate and optimize our BigQuery infrastructure, from performance tuning to partitioning and clustering, monitoring query costs, and clean schema management in the Raw Zone.
  • You will treat our data pipelines as production systems and make them observable by default: you will design monitoring and alerting around pipeline health, source freshness, data quality, and operational SLAs – so that we know what's broken, why, and who it affects, before the business units do.
  • You will further develop our CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) for ingestion and dbt and actively participate in code reviews.
  • You will actively shape our stack: you will lay the infrastructural foundation for our strategic data projects, such as the development of our central audience data platform, and make important decisions about architecture and tooling.
  • You will bring AI to the data platform: from AI-assisted troubleshooting and automated pipeline diagnosis to intelligent data quality checks, documentation, operational workflows, and developer tooling, you will experiment with agents and automation to reduce manual work. You can contribute to our company-wide AI agent and help decide where AI creates real added value – and where classic engineering remains the better solution.

What sets you apart

  • You have several years of professional experience in data engineering and have already been responsible for ELT/ETL pipelines and data orchestration in a production environment.
  • You are proficient in Python and SQL and have sound experience with Airflow or Cloud Composer.
  • You are familiar with BigQuery (performance, costs, permissions) and have basic GCP knowledge (IAM, Cloud Storage, ideally Workload Identity Federation).
  • Ideally, you have already worked with dbt, Fivetran, or Airbyte and know tools like Docker, Terraform, or Cloud Monitoring.
  • You act on your own initiative, work in a structured manner, and are eager to take full responsibility for business-critical infrastructure.
  • You have fluent German language skills and good written and spoken English skills.

What's in it for you

  • The opportunity to contribute to one of the most exciting German media companies.
  • A feel-good office with height-adjustable desks, massage chairs, mini-gym, summer deck, and much more, right in Hamburg's Schanzenviertel.
  • Freshly prepared delicacies from our campus team, as well as a large selection of muesli and drinks.
  • Company fitness through EGYM Wellpass, mental health offers from nilo, and company pension plans.
  • Flexible working hours and heycare for the care of children, pets, or relatives and more work-life balance in everyday life.
  • Bicycle leasing, subsidy for the HVV Proficard, JobAuto, and employee discounts on partner products.
  • Access to all OMR further training formats and a steep learning curve in digital fields.
  • The opportunity to network with players in the digital scene through the OMR cosmos.

If we have sparked your interest and you want to go to the office with a good mood every morning in the future, Elisabeth Barheine looks forward to receiving your application :-)
