Data Engineer

As a Data Engineer at Zonneplan, you will work on something that affects the entire organization. You will build and improve the central data platform, make data securely available to all teams, and lay the technical foundation for a new ML platform. This means: pipelines that run reliably, data quality that teams can trust, and self-service solutions that enable colleagues to get started independently. You will directly see the results of your work when data requests are handled faster and teams work more autonomously with data.

You will work from Team Infra and interact daily with engineering, Trading & Optimization, GenAI, and other development teams. Consider a recurring data request that you jointly translate into a sustainable self-service solution, or a dataset that you securely unlock so that the GenAI team can build dashboards with it independently. Agentic Engineering is an integral part of how we work: you will have a Claude Code Max 20x license (or equivalent) at your disposal, and we actively encourage the use of AI in everything you do. The lines of communication are short, the impact is broad. This way, you help Zonneplan work data-driven and AI-driven, and that accelerates plan Zero: better data means faster decisions and smarter energy systems.

You will work 32-40 hours per week with a salary between €3,500 and €5,000 gross per month.

• You build and improve the data platform. You develop data pipelines and data models that provide reliable data to the entire organization. You monitor what's running, identify problems early, and resolve them before they impact dashboards, analyses, or ML applications.
• You make data securely and broadly available. You set up access controls and data quality checks so that teams can work independently and responsibly with data. You translate data requests from the organization into structural solutions, thereby significantly reducing lead times.
• You lay the foundation for the ML platform. You build the technical foundations on which future machine learning applications can run. You will work closely with other developers to ensure that the platform aligns with their needs, from model training to serving.
• You work AI-driven and continuously improve. Agentic Engineering is not an experiment; it's how we work. You use tools like Claude Code in development, testing, documentation, and monitoring. You automate recurring tasks and actively share what you learn with your team.

• You have at least 1 to 2 years of experience as a Data Engineer and are broadly deployable in the field.
• You are proficient in SQL and have experience with data modeling and building and managing reliable data pipelines.
• You think critically about data quality, reliability, and security, and take ownership of them.
• You make technical topics understandable for non-technical colleagues and enjoy collaborating with other teams to translate user needs into solutions.
• You identify improvement opportunities and tackle them without being asked. You use AI daily to work faster and smarter.
• Experience with tools from our stack such as Dagster, Snowflake, Postgres, Kafka, dbt, dlthub, Airbyte, Kubernetes, or AWS is a nice-to-have. You don't need to know everything, but you quickly master new tooling.
• If you have previously worked on data mesh or self-service analytics, that's a real plus. You will then understand how to enable teams to work independently with data without compromising on quality or security.

• A salary between €3,500 and €5,000 gross per month, depending on your experience and knowledge.
