Job description
Do you want to build reliable data products used throughout Univé? Within the Data & AI Office, you will work with Snowflake, dbt, Azure, Git, and CI/CD. You will transform available source data into well-modeled, tested, and manageable data products for analyses, reports, self-service, and AI applications.
We are looking for a Data Engineer who combines data engineering with software engineering. Someone who takes responsibility for what they build, practically applies new technology, and further develops the data platform and our working methods together with colleagues.
Who are you
You are a Data Engineer who values technical quality and takes responsibility for what you build. You actively seek ways to make development smarter, better, and more manageable, and you use new technology when it demonstrably adds value.
You write understandable and maintainable code and automate where it helps. For you, a data product is only finished when it is reliable, tested, documented, and manageably in production.
You enjoy working collaboratively and can clearly explain technical choices. You share knowledge, are open to feedback, and understand that a good technical solution must also be usable and understandable for the organization.
What do you bring?
HBO or WO work and thinking level, preferably with a degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, or a comparable field;
several years of relevant experience as a Data Engineer, Analytics Engineer, BI Developer, or in a comparable technical data role;
strong knowledge of SQL and data modeling;
experience with Snowflake and dbt or comparable cloud and transformation technologies;
experience with Microsoft Azure or a comparable cloud environment is a nice-to-have;
experience with Git, automated testing, and CI/CD;
knowledge of DevOps and software engineering principles;
experience with Python is a plus;
experience with data quality, monitoring, and documentation;
experience with AI-assisted development, or the motivation to apply this structurally and critically;
you can critically assess AI-generated code for quality, security, and maintainability;
a curious, innovative, and results-oriented mindset;
strong communication and collaboration skills;
excellent command of the Dutch language, both spoken and written.
What will you do
As a Data Engineer within the Data & AI Office, you will build reliable data products on Univé's data platform. Data exposure from source systems is handled elsewhere in the data chain. You will work with the source data available on the platform and transform and model it into ready-to-use data products.
With dbt, SQL, and Snowflake, you will build clear and reusable data models. From the outset, you will consider data quality, performance, security, testability, documentation, and management. You understand what the data is used for and collaborate with the business and other data specialists to translate information needs into sustainable solutions.
AI-assisted development is part of our engineering methodology. You will use modern AI development tools where they help make code, tests, and documentation faster and better, for example. You will critically assess the outcomes and remain personally responsible for the design, quality, security, and operation of what you deliver.
You will work with data engineers, data scientists, data analysts, Business Information Analysts, architects, and colleagues from the value streams. You will contribute to shared standards and actively share knowledge about data engineering and new working methods.
Specifically, you will:
transform and model available source data in Snowflake;
build and maintain reusable data products with dbt and SQL;
design data models that are understandable, performant, and suitable for reuse;
automate data quality checks, tests, and deployments;
apply software engineering principles to data development;
work with Git and CI/CD within a DevOps methodology;
use AI development tools for, among other things, writing, testing, reviewing, and documenting code;
monitor and improve the performance, reliability, and manageability of data products;
document definitions, lineage, and technical documentation;
collaborate with data scientists and data analysts on reliable data for analyses, models, and AI applications;
collaborate with the business to translate information needs into usable data products;
contribute to discussions on architecture, standards, and the further development of the data platform;
share knowledge and help colleagues with new technology and working methods.
Your primary work location is Zwolle, but we also work one day in Assen. We work hybrid, with you working on-site an average of half the time.
What we offer
Within the Data & AI Office, you will work on a data platform that is used organization-wide. You will be given space to take responsibility for data products, explore new techniques, and further improve the engineering methodology.
Salary: this position is classified in scale 9. The annual salary ranges between € 58,352 to € 82,378 based on a 38-hour work week, including holiday allowance and thirteenth month, and excluding variable compensation;
Good employment conditions: you will receive, among other things, holiday allowance, a thirteenth month, variable Collective Performance Bonus, good pension provision, and a home working and travel expenses allowance;
Modern data platform: you will work with Snowflake, dbt, Azure, Git, and automated CI/CD pipelines, among others;
AI-assisted development: you will have access to modern AI development tools and can use them structurally in your daily work;
Organization-wide impact: the data products you build support analyses, decision-making, and AI applications throughout Univé;
Room for innovation: you will have the freedom to explore and introduce new techniques, tools, and working methods;
Professional field: you will work with data engineers, data scientists, data analysts, architects, and other specialists;
Ownership: you will be involved in the entire lifecycle of a data product, from design and development to production, monitoring, and improvement;
Development: we invest in your professional and personal growth with training, knowledge sharing, and room to experiment;
Hybrid working: you will work an average of 50% on-site and 50% from home, including support for your home workspace;
Extra benefits: discount on your property and health insurance with Univé.
Who we are
Within the Data & AI Office, we work on the data and AI ambition of the entire Univé. We develop the central data foundation, build reliable data products, and use data and AI to improve decision-making, processes, and customer service.
You will join an environment with data scientists, data engineers, data analysts, business information analysts, and other data specialists. Together with colleagues from the value streams and business units, we bring together knowledge of data, technology, and the business.
We believe in ownership, craftsmanship, and collaboration. We like to experiment, but we also ensure that successful solutions are implemented safely, reliably, and manageably. This is how we make data and AI practically applicable for our employees and meaningful for our members.
