As a Data Engineer, you will independently bring data solutions to life: You will develop pipelines and data models within established platform architectures, manage them in operation, and continuously improve them. You won't make architectural decisions alone, but you will actively contribute your own suggestions and gradually take responsibility for your own areas of focus such as data quality, orchestration, or DataOps.
Development, testing, and operation of ETL/ELT pipelines for batch and streaming processing, e.g., with Python, SQL, Spark, dbt, or Airflow
Implementation and further development of data models in existing Lakehouse and Data Warehouse architectures, e.g., based on Star Schema, Normal Forms, or Data Vault
Connection and harmonization of source systems – such as relational databases, REST APIs, event streams, or ERP systems
Development of reusable transformation and reporting layers for analytics and AI use cases
Ensuring data quality through validation rules, reconciliation processes, and root cause analysis for anomalies
Orchestration, scheduling, and monitoring of data solutions in ongoing operation – in cloud, on-premise, and hybrid environments
Analysis and optimization of queries, data models, and workloads with a view to runtime and costs
Participation in architectural decisions and solution designs within the team, as well as constructive questioning of existing designs
Provision of high-quality, AI-ready datasets and coordination of interfaces with AI and backend teams
Use of AI-supported tools and generative AI to support development, documentation, testing, and quality assurance
Further development of CI/CD and DataOps practices, version control with Git, and documentation of data models and transformation logic
Collaboration with clients, business departments, and interdisciplinary agile teams, including prototyping and requirements clarification
Gradual assumption of responsibility, for example in the areas of governance, security, observability, or code quality
Support for junior colleagues in daily business and participation in code reviews
Completed degree in IT or STEM-related fields, or a comparable qualification
Approximately 3-5 years of practical experience in Data Engineering, Data Warehousing, or operating data platforms
Good knowledge of SQL and at least one programming language in the data environment, ideally Python
Practical experience with at least one cloud or data platform, e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP, Databricks, Snowflake, or Microsoft Fabric
Experience with tools from the Modern Data Stack and orchestration, e.g., dbt, Spark, or Airflow
Solid understanding of data modeling, data integration, as well as ETL/ELT and streaming methods
Experience in data quality, monitoring, and handling governance and security requirements
Proficient in using Git, CI/CD, and automated tests
Openness to the reflective use of AI-supported tools in an engineering context
Experience in agile development methodologies (Scrum/Kanban)
Analytical thinking, structured way of working, and enjoyment of teamwork
Open and appreciative communication when interacting with clients and colleagues
German language skills at C1/C2 level
English language skills at B2 level
Residence in Germany, ideally near Ratingen/Frankfurt

Nice to have:
Experience with streaming technologies and event architectures, e.g., Kafka
Knowledge of working with ERP data, especially SAP data structures
Initial exposure to Infrastructure as Code and containers, e.g., Terraform, Docker, or Kubernetes
Experience with analytics and BI tools such as Power BI, Qlik, or Tableau
Knowledge of the open-source data ecosystem, e.g., Apache-based technologies
Relevant cloud or data certifications, or the desire to obtain them
Interest in sharing your own knowledge in workshops or internal formats
