Data Engineer / BI Data Platform Engineer (m/w/d)

CaraConsult is a specialized consulting firm for the caravaning industry. Our customers are mainly medium-sized companies around motorhomes, caravans, and recreational vehicles. We support them in improving processes, using data better, implementing digitalization projects, and making economically sound decisions.

In this role, you will work on our existing and future data landscape. Today, we are already intensively using Power BI, databases, models, interfaces, scripts, and automations. At the same time, we want to develop our data architecture prospectively and modernize it to be more stable, scalable, and better maintainable. This includes topics such as cleaner data pipelines, transparent transformation logic, better documentation, metadata, automated updates, open-source-like platform approaches, and new BI or analytics tools. What's important to us is that data solutions are not only technically correct but also stable, understandable, maintainable, and future-proof.

Aufgaben

• You develop and maintain data processes, models, reports, and interfaces. This is not just about individual evaluations, but about the question of how data can be reliably provided, processed, documented, and made available for internal or customer-oriented applications.
• You work intensively with Power BI, databases, SQL queries, APIs, scripts, and integrations. At the same time, you help us develop our data landscape step by step, making it more stable and translating technical requirements into clean data structures.
• An important part of this role is also bringing in new technical possibilities. We don't just want to continue running existing reports, but build our data platform professionally over the long term. This includes modern approaches for data pipelines, transformations, data quality, metadata, automated tests, open-source BI, self-hosting, and better understandable data architectures.
• You analyze where data comes from, how it is processed, and what its practical significance is. Topics like availability, age, liquidity, margins, KPIs or operational processes in the caravaning industry should not be familiar to you from the start, but you want to understand them.
• Depending on your experience, you can also contribute to data platform concepts, automations, deployment, monitoring, or operating data solutions. Data processes do not just have to work once, but regularly, transparently, and robustly. If you already have experience with tools or concepts like dbt, Airflow, DLT, Superset, data catalogs, data quality, or similar approaches, that would be particularly interesting to us because we want to build new development paths.

Qualifikation

This role requires you to understand not just visualize data but also its origin, processing, modeling, and use.

What's especially relevant for us:

• practical experience with data processing, BI, databases, reporting, or software development related to data
• very good or expandable practical knowledge in Power BI, as we currently intensively use it in internal and customer-oriented data solutions. If you're not yet a Power BI pro, you should at least have very good foundations and be willing to quickly dive deep into this topic.
• good SQL skills and understanding of relational databases, ideally with experience in PostgreSQL or similar systems
• experience with data modeling, data preparation, interfaces, or APIs
• practical experience with Python, Power Query, scripts, or similar tools for data processing
• interest in modern data platform concepts, such as data pipelines, transformation frameworks, open-source BI, metadata, data quality, or automation
• ability to translate practical requirements into robust data structures, reports, or evaluations
• basic understanding of productive systems, regular data updates, error analysis, and documentation
• structured work style and interest in building data solutions that are transparent and maintainable
• willingness to bring in your own experiences and new technical perspectives to shape our data landscape not just operate it
