Dairy Cattle Farmer

About the role

Join a modern 1200-cow operation with excellent equipment, supportive team culture and consistent roster. Single-person accommodation is available at cost.

Key responsibilities

  1. Plan, organise and coordinate daily dairy operations focused on milk production and herd welfare.
  2. Implement breeding, calving and herd fertility programs; assist with heifer rearing.
  3. Monitor animal health and welfare; manage biosecurity risks and treatment schedules.
  4. Manage feeding and nutrition programs; oversee water supply, pasture management and fodder cropping.
  5. Organise and carry out milking routines (30-aside double-up dairy, ADF, auto cup removers); sterilise and maintain milking plant/equipment; collect and grade milk.
  6. Direct general farm maintenance: fencing, sheds, laneways, water and irrigation infrastructure; operate tractors, loaders and other machinery.
  7. Maintain accurate production and herd records; use farm tech/data for decision-making; plan production to market conditions.
  8. Arrange transport and sale/collection of milk and livestock as required.
  9. Select, train, supervise and roster staff and contractors to meet production targets and WHS/animal-welfare standards.

Additional duties from site operations

  1. Move herd to and from paddocks; general dairy clean-up and maintenance.
  2. General farm work as required and safe vehicle/machinery operation.

What you’ll bring

  1. Physical fitness to handle sustained farm work and variable weather.
  2. Valid and current driver's licence and reliable transport to/from work.
  3. Prior dairy/livestock hands-on experience is required. (large-scale operation experience highly regarded).
  4. Strong animal-welfare focus, record-keeping discipline and ability to work rostered hours (including early starts, weekends and public holidays as required).
