Job description

About Project Healthy Minds

Project Healthy Minds is a mental health nonprofit that runs like a tech startup. We are pioneering a first-of-its-kind model: applying technology to address one of the biggest social issues of our time: the growing mental health crisis. We believe in a simple but profound idea: that it should be as easy to find mental health services as it is to book a flight or a restaurant reservation. That's why we're building the world’s first digital marketplace for finding mental health services that are right for you.

To do that, we work with some of the most inspiring and influential leaders in America - business titans, tech entrepreneurs, clinicians and scientists, musicians, artists, athletes, media stars, policymakers, and more - because we believe that the world's most complex challenges require interdisciplinary teams and solutions.

We are backed by a powerhouse of industry-leading Board of Directors and Advisory Council Members who are passionate, hands-on, and dive into the important work with us.

About The Role

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We are seeking an experienced Copywriter (Contract) to help develop clear, empathetic, and credible written content focused on mental health education and services. This role will be responsible for producing articles and related content aimed at a general audience that skews towards young adults and parents, translating clinical or technical concepts into language that is accurate, approachable, and useful.

The Copywriter will work closely with the Product Marketing & Operations Lead and VP of Product, and will collaborate with PHM’s clinical network for sourcing, fact-checking, and review. This is a hands-on writing role, not a strategy-only or editorial management role.

This role is designed for contract-based engagement, and the volume of work may vary over time based on editorial priorities.

This is a remote, hourly contract position.

HOW YOU'LL DO

• Write clear, engaging, and accurate articles and educational content on mental health topics, services, and care navigation

• Translate clinically reviewed concepts into accessible language

• Collaborate with PHM’s clinical network to source quotes, insights, and ensure factual accuracy

• Partner with clinical reviewers to incorporate feedback and ensure content meets PHM quality standards

• Use SEO tools to review drafts for keyword usage, readability, and search optimization, and revise accordingly

• Work with PHM’s Creative team to help shape supporting visual assets (photography and occasional video concepts) that align with written pieces

• Revise and iterate on content based on editorial feedback, performance insights, and evolving priorities

HOW YOU'LL BRING

Proven experience writing about mental health, healthcare, or health education topics for a general audience

Strong ability to explain complex or sensitive topics with clarity, empathy, and accuracy

Excellent writing and editing skills, with attention to tone, structure, and audience fit

Experience working with subject-matter experts (e.g., clinicians, researchers) and incorporating feedback

Familiarity with SEO best practices and use of SEO tools to optimize content

Strong organizational skills and ability to manage drafts, revisions, and deadlines independently

Comfort working in a collaborative, feedback-driven environment

NICE TO HAVES

Deep familiarity with one or more mental health topic areas (e.g., therapy modalities, psychiatric care, youth mental health, substance use, trauma, or care navigation)

Experience writing for digital health, healthcare, or nonprofit organizations

Familiarity with content performance metrics and basic analytics

Experience collaborating with designers, photographers, or video teams

Background in journalism, communications, public health, psychology, or related fields

WHY THIS IS A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY

A world-class Board, Clinical Advisory Committee, supporters, and collaborators. We’ve assembled a truly best-in-class network across business, academia, and media -- working to help us reach our goals, and we’re still growing.

A big, bold vision with backing. To achieve our target scale of impact, we’re funded by a combination of private philanthropy and earned revenue. We are poised to continue our multi-year track record of strong year-over-year growth.

Startup mindset, social mission ethos. You’ll work with a team with experience at venture-backed startups, market-leading enterprise organizations, and everything in between. What brings us to this particular nonprofit is the recognition of a rare opportunity to drive massive positive impact in society.
