Accountant

Overview

We are a newly launched US-based CPA firm specializing in audit and assurance services across construction companies, employee benefit plans, and nonprofits. We work lean, move fast, and use AI heavily in our day-to-day workflows.

We are looking for a Accountant to join our team and report directly to our senior contractor. This is not a bookkeeping role, we need someone with solid accounting fundamentals and a higher-level understanding of US GAAP who is hungry for experience, comfortable with ambiguity, and genuinely excited to learn something new every day. The right person brings the foundation; we will build the rest together.

✅ Key Responsibilities

• Support audit and assurance engagements across multiple industries: construction, employee benefit plans, and nonprofits.
• Work with financial reports and data outside of client systems — pulling, organizing, and analyzing the right information rather than working directly in client accounting software.
• Build and maintain Excel workpapers: pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and structured data analysis to support audit testing and reporting.
• Use AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, or similar) to build spreadsheets, review work, and streamline workflow — you are expected to use AI to work smarter, then review the output critically.
• Apply audit testing templates and workflows provided by the team — adapting and improving them as you gain experience.
• Manage multiple concurrent engagements with strong organization and attention to detail.
• Communicate proactively: flag questions early, keep the team informed, and ask for help before a deadline is at risk.

Main Qualifications

• Must-Have: 2–4 years of accounting experience — solid fundamentals, full accounting cycle knowledge, above bookkeeper level.
• Working knowledge of US GAAP — you do not need to be an expert, but you need a real foundation. This will be tested in the interview.
• Advanced Excel: comfortable with pivot tables and VLOOKUPs at minimum. We use AI to complement Excel, not replace it.
• Comfortable using AI tools in real workflows (Claude) — not just awareness, but actual hands-on use. You will be asked to demonstrate this during screening.
• Self-directed and output-driven — there are no set hours here. You are accountable for getting the work done and done well.
• Strong written and spoken English — you will communicate directly with the team and occasionally with clients.
• Willing to learn: every engagement brings something new. If that excites you, you will thrive here.

Nice to Have

• Experience in audit, assurance, or working within a CPA or public accounting firm environment.
• Exposure to any of our core industries: construction accounting, employee benefit plans, or nonprofits.
• Familiarity with AuditFile or similar audit software — not expected, but a bonus.
