Consultant Decision Intelligence (m/f/d)
Job description
You decide with the CFO which fifteen key figures will steer his company in the future.
Monday: Kick-off at a mechanical engineering company with 400 employees. On the table are DATEV, an ERP, a CRM, a time tracking system — and the question of why management still doesn't have a reliable contribution margin calculation six weeks after the end of the month. Friday: a prioritized list of use cases, a roadmap in waves, the first key figure definitions agreed upon.
In other tech companies, the same work is called Deployment Strategist, Value Engineer, or Client Value Partner.
ValueWorks is a decision intelligence platform for management, CFOs, and private equity investors in German-speaking countries. We connect the data from the systems our customers already have into a consistent picture of the company via a semantic layer — and turn it into steering: Reporting, Diagnosis, Planning, OKRs. Four to eight weeks to the first dashboard.
ValueWorks was founded by a team from McKinsey, Bain, and SAP — with corresponding experience in how companies are actually managed and why management fails in practice.
Tasks
Kick-off and target image: You moderate the kick-off workshop — business model, system landscape across ten process areas, pain points of the management team.
Derive and prioritize use cases: From the system landscape, you develop what is possible and valuable for this customer — from P&L restructuring and pipeline forecasts to churn prediction from CRM, support, and product data. Prioritization by importance and feasibility, from which you cut the implementation waves.
Define key figures: You bring Finance and the business unit together to a common definition of "order intake" or "DSO" and translate it so that it can be clearly implemented in the semantic layer. The most demanding and valuable part of the work.
Accompany implementation: You work with our Forward Deployed Engineers, who build pipelines and data products — you bring the business logic, they bring the technical implementation. You validate the results before handover.
Manage multiple mandates in parallel: You typically handle several customer projects simultaneously — each with its own pace, own stakeholders, and own wave planning. Clean prioritization, keeping commitments, and clear communication to both sides are just as crucial in this role as analytical sharpness.
Ensure impact and develop the mandate: Weekly jour fixe, wave reviews, quarterly business reviews with management. You see if your dashboards are changing decisions — and if they are, collaboration grows: customers extend and add further areas. The success of this role is measured by this.
What this role is not: no ticket support, no hotline, no service SLAs. No new customer or cold acquisition — the customer relationships you manage already exist. And no project management without substantive content: you decide on content, not just on deadlines.
Qualification
Degree in Business Informatics, Information Systems, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration with a digital focus
For entry: initial practical experience from internships, working student positions, or thesis in controlling, BI, data analytics, or consulting. We will train you on real customer projects.
With 0–3 years of experience: you have already independently managed data or controlling projects and will lead a kick-off alone after a short induction.
Proficient in SQL or willing to learn it in the first few weeks. You don't build pipelines, but you understand what happens in them.
Basic understanding of P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, and contribution margin
You manage multiple projects in parallel without losing overview or commitments — project management is not a secondary aspect of the role here, but half of it.
Strong communication skills: You explain a data model to a CFO and business logic to a data engineer — and navigate both conversations confidently.
German fluent in negotiation, English fluent.
Benefits
Technical depth like in consulting, without Monday flights: C-level contact from the first project, travel as needed rather than by calendar.
Fixed salary instead of equity promises: We pay in the upper market range and openly state the range in the advertisement. No equity promise whose value you have to wait years for — the first year is pure fixed salary.
A clear development path that is also reflected in salary: structured onboarding along real projects, after about 12–18 months your own customer projects under your responsibility. From the second year onwards, a variable component is added to the fixed salary, which is based on the customer projects you are responsible for — their number, their scope, and how they develop. Afterwards, specialization (e.g., Financial Analytics, SaaS Metrics) or the path towards team responsibility.
Results instead of slides: What you define goes into a system and is used.
Pattern recognition across industries: Within a year, you will see the system landscape and steering logic of a dozen companies — SaaS, mechanical engineering, retail, PE portfolios.
Founders from McKinsey, Bain, and SAP: You will learn from people who know management and enterprise software from both sides — short paths, direct feedback.
Our process: 30 minutes get-to-know-you → technical discussion with a colleague based on a real, anonymized case → case discussion with a founder → offer, usually within two weeks.
No cover letter needed. Send us your resume and two sentences about which part of this description interests you the most.
