CONSTRUCTION DIRECTOR – POWER – SOLAR PV, BESS & SUBSTATIONS – NORTHERN CAPE & WESTERN CAPE The main purpose of the role: The Construction Director – Power is responsible for the end-to-end construction delivery of all power generation and grid infrastructure projects across Phelan’s portfolio. This includes utility-scale Solar PV plants, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), MV/HV substations, and associated grid connection infrastructure across multiple regions. Responsibilities: Group-Wide responsibility for the overall construction delivery of all power generation and grid infrastructure projects across Phelan’s portfolio. This includes utility-scale Solar PV plants, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), MV/HV substations, and associated grid connection infrastructure across multiple regions. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Overseeing the planning, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, testing, and handover of all power generation and grid infrastructure projects. • Ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and Phelan’s policies and procedures. • Collaborating with cross-functional teams including engineering, procurement, construction, and operations to ensure successful project delivery. • Developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, contractors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies. • Providing technical guidance and support to project teams as required. • Identifying and mitigating risks associated with power generation and grid infrastructure projects. • Ensuring that all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. • Maintaining accurate records of project progress, issues, and lessons learned. • Participating in Phelan’s continuous improvement initiatives to drive best practices and process improvements across the organization. Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as engineering, construction management, or a related discipline. • At least 8 years of experience in the power generation and grid infrastructure industry, with a focus on construction delivery. • Proven track record of successfully delivering large-scale construction projects. • Strong understanding of solar PV, BESS, MV/HV substations, and associated grid connection infrastructure. • Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills. • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
