Job description

This role is for one of our clients

We are seeking a Computational Physics Specialist to design terminal bench–style problems and tasks within the physics domain. This role involves creating realistic simulation environments where AI agents are tested on their ability to reason, compute, and solve physics-based challenges using code and logical commands. It’s ideal for individuals with strong physics foundations, programming skills, and an interest in AI-driven problem-solving.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and build terminal-based benchmarks where autonomous agents interact with physics simulations and problem-solving tasks.
  • Develop tasks that require agents to calculate physical quantities, run code-based simulations, and solve real-world physics problems.
  • Create step-by-step challenges that incorporate mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, wave dynamics, and other core physics concepts.
  • Collaborate with AI engineers to define task specifications, difficulty levels, and reward structures.
  • Develop tools to ensure benchmark reproducibility, task evaluation, and automated resets.
  • Scale challenges from basic mechanics problems to multi-step, interdisciplinary simulations.
  • Mimic real scientific computing workflows, including modifying parameters, parsing outputs, and debugging models.

Qualifications:

  • Background in Physics, Applied Physics, or Engineering Physics.
  • Proficiency with computational methods such as numerical integration, differential equations, Monte Carlo simulations, or physical modeling.
  • Coding experience in Python, MATLAB, C++, or similar languages; comfort in a Linux terminal environment.
  • Strong understanding of core physics concepts and the ability to translate them into structured problem-solving tasks.
  • Interest in AI agents and designing experiments that test interaction with simulations and physics solvers.

Why This Role is Exciting:

  • Shape a new class of AI agent benchmarks grounded in scientific reasoning.
  • Apply physics knowledge creatively in simulation, automation, and AI contexts.
  • Contribute to high-autonomy projects that push the boundaries of agent performance in complex domains.

Work Structure & Compensation:

  • Part-time: ~20 hours/week, fully remote and asynchronous.
  • Hourly contractor arrangement.
  • Paid weekly via Stripe Connect, based on hours logged; ($10.5 per hour)
