Job description

Do you want to work in a caring environment that moves fast? France's 5th largest supplier in 10 years, Octopus Energy is a renewable energy supplier that acts as a true spearhead for the electro-tech revolution.

How do we do it? We can't revolutionize the world by working like everyone else. We try not to take ourselves too seriously; here we operate in an environment without too many processes or rules. The most important thing is not just to follow the trend, but to create it.

We don't want to create company clones. We want you, with your talents, your perspectives, and your unique skills.

Why this position?

Octopus Energy France is experiencing strong growth in its B2C, B2B, and B2G segments, and its Finance function is structuring itself in parallel: recent migration from Odoo to NetSuite, automation of the supplier chain, interfacing with billing platforms, harmonization with the group's standards in the UK. We are looking for a senior accountant capable of taking charge of a critical scope (gross margin and energy taxation), making it reliable, and developing it. More than just an executor, you will be the one who identifies problems, understands their cause, and implements sustainable solutions.

Your responsibilities
Gross margin and energy accounting
  • Manage the monthly accounting of gross margin flows (energy purchases, transmission, invoiced and non-invoiced sales) and produce a critical analysis: variations, variances, levers
  • Ensure the reliability of the cut-off and month-end estimates (invoices to be issued, unbilled energy delivered, provisions), in conjunction with operational and billing teams
  • Justify and document the accounts in your scope, and resolve any anomalies until they are definitively resolved
  • Energy taxation and VAT
  • Prepare, control, and submit VAT declarations (CA3) as well as excise duties on electricity and natural gas and the CTA (Contribution to Alternative Energies)
  • Prepare intra-EU trade declarations (EMEBI) for intra-EU flows
  • Be the go-to contact for tax issues within your scope: analyze new cases (commercial offers, loyalty programs, new products), formalize a position, and challenge it with our external advisors
  • Contribute to compliance with the e-invoicing and e-reporting reform
  • Supervision and control
  • Supervise and control accounts payable operations, and contribute to the improvement of the automation chain (NetSuite, Rossum)
  • Be the point of contact for statutory auditors and external auditors on your scope: preparation of supporting documents, responses to requests, follow-up of recommendations
  • Structuring and continuous improvement
  • Identify friction points in closings and processes, propose solutions, and implement them
  • Shorten and improve the reliability of monthly closings post-NetSuite migration
  • Write and maintain process and control documentation
  • Be a driving force in the deployment of AI and automation within Finance

  • What we expect from you
From your arrival to 3 months:
  • Take charge of NetSuite, Rossum, and understand the flows between the ERP and the billing and back-office systems
  • Understand the mechanisms of the energy market and the construction of gross margin
  • Perform your first closings and declarations in tandem, and deliver an initial diagnosis of the fragilities in your scope
  • From 4 to 6 months:
  • Be fully autonomous in closings, margin analysis, and all tax declarations
  • Be the go-to contact for energy taxation, both internally and with statutory auditors and advisors
  • Have implemented at least one concrete and measurable improvement (process, control, automation)
  • Beyond 6 months:
  • Be proactive in defining the Finance roadmap and support the team's skill development in your area

  • This position is for you if
  • You hold a DSCG, DCG, Master's in CCA, or equivalent degree, with 4 to 7 years of experience in accounting and taxation, ideally with a background in an audit or accounting firm followed by corporate experience
  • You have a solid command of VAT and, ideally, energy excise duties; experience in the energy, utilities, or a high-volume billing sector is a real plus
  • You are accustomed to demanding monthly closings and exchanges with statutory auditors
  • You are very comfortable with advanced Excel (Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP, Power Query), analysis of large volumes; an aptitude for automation and AI tools is appreciated
  • You have a good knowledge of ERP systems (NetSuite appreciated) and experience with a migration project or process redesign is desired
  • You are proficient in French and professional English (B2-C1 level): you will regularly interact with the group's teams in the UK
  • What will make the difference:
  • You are a true problem solver: faced with an unexplained variance, you don't just correct it, you trace it back to the cause and ensure it doesn't happen again
  • You are comfortable in a developing environment where not everything is yet documented, and you enjoy structuring
  • You are autonomous, rigorous, and capable of prioritizing in a fast-paced context
  • You can simplify technical topics and work with non-financial stakeholders (operations, billing, IT)
  • Why you'll love working with us?

You've seen the salary or the range planned for this position but would like to discuss it? Ask us! During our first contact, this is a point we always address, because even though we take care to define the fairest possible scales, it's also important for us to match your experience to the right salary. We'll have the opportunity to tell you more about how we determined the salary and other benefits you'll be entitled to if you join us! Lastly, know that we can have a certain degree of flexibility, as we would never want salary to be a reason why someone doesn't apply to Octopus - what's most important to us is finding the right Octofit!

Certified since 2024 and 4th in 2025, Octopus Energy France is ranked 1st out of over 200 companies in the Great Place to Work 2026 ranking! This well reflects our commitment to a fulfilling work environment!

We are an organization where people learn, decide, and build faster. Where they work autonomously, with extraordinary people, on projects that innovate. Profit-sharing, flex-office, excellent health insurance, soft mobility package, reimbursement of a portion of your transport pass beyond the legal minimum, and even special leave days to invest in a volunteer project that matters to you... We want your commitment to be rewarded with benefits that truly matter to you!

At Octopus, we seek fundamentally kind and empathetic people. Equal opportunities are important to us, and we strive to offer an inclusive and equitable work environment. We invite you to apply, regardless of your age, gender, marital status, color, disability, pregnancy or parenthood, origin, religious beliefs, or sexual orientation.
