Do you want to work in a supportive environment that moves fast? Fifth French supplier in 10 years, Octopus Energy is a renewable energy supplier that acts as a true spearhead for the electro-tech revolution.
How do we do it? We can't revolutionize the world by working like everyone else. We try not to take ourselves too seriously; here we operate in an environment without too many processes or rules. The most important thing is not just to follow the movement, but to create it.
We don't want to create company clones. We want you, with your unique talents, perspectives, and skills.
Why this role?
Octopus Energy France is experiencing strong growth in its B2C, B2B, and B2G segments, and its Finance function is structuring itself in parallel: recent migration from Odoo to NetSuite, automation of the supplier chain, interfacing with billing platforms, harmonization with the group's standards in the UK. We are looking for a senior general accountant capable of taking charge of a critical scope (gross margin and energy taxation), making it reliable, and developing it. More than an executor, you will be the one who identifies problems, understands their cause, and implements sustainable solutions.
Your missionsGross margin and energy accounting
Pilot the monthly accounting of gross margin flows (energy purchases, transmission, invoiced and un-invoiced sales) and produce a critical analysis: variations, discrepancies, levers Ensure the reliability of cut-offs and month-end estimates (invoices to be issued, energy delivered un-invoiced, provisions), in conjunction with operational and billing teams Justify and document the accounts in your scope, and resolve anomalies until their definitive resolution Energy taxation and VAT Prepare, control, and file VAT returns (CA3) as well as excise duties on electricity and natural gas, and the CTA (Contribution to the Attractiveness of Renewable Energies) Prepare Intra-EU Goods Declarations (EMEBI) for intra-EU flows Act as the point of contact for tax matters within the scope: analyze new cases (commercial offers, loyalty programs, new products), formalize a position, and challenge it with our external advisors Contribute to compliance with the e-invoicing and e-reporting reform Supervision and control Supervise and control accounts payable operations, and contribute to the improvement of the automation chain (NetSuite, Rossum) Act as the point of contact for statutory auditors and auditors on your scope: preparation of supporting documents, responses to requests, follow-up of recommendations Structuring and continuous improvement Identify friction points in closing processes and procedures, propose solutions, and implement them Shorten and make reliable the monthly closings post-NetSuite migration Write and maintain documentation for processes and controls Be a driving force in the deployment of AI and automation within Finance What we expect from you From your arrival to 3 months:
Take ownership of NetSuite, Rossum, and understand the flows between the ERP and billing/back-office systems Understand the energy market mechanisms and how gross margin is constructed Perform your first closings and filings in tandem, and deliver an initial diagnosis of the fragilities in your scope From 4 to 6 months: Be fully autonomous in closings, margin analysis, and all tax filings Be the reference contact person for energy taxation, both internally and with statutory auditors and advisors Have implemented at least one concrete and measurable improvement (process, control, automation) Beyond 6 months: Proactively contribute to the Finance roadmap and support the team's skill development in your area This role is for you if
You hold a DSCG, DCG, Master's in CCA, or equivalent degree, with 4 to 7 years of experience in accounting and taxation, ideally with a period in an audit or accounting firm followed by experience in a company You have a solid command of VAT and, ideally, energy excise duties; experience in the energy, utilities, or a high-volume billing sector is a real plus You are accustomed to demanding monthly closings and interacting with statutory auditors You are very comfortable with advanced Excel (Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP, Power Query), analysis of large volumes; an aptitude for automation and AI tools is appreciated You have good knowledge of ERP systems (NetSuite is appreciated) and experience with a migration project or process redesign is desired You are fluent in French and Professional English (B2-C1 level): you will regularly communicate with the group's teams in the UK What will make the difference: You are a true problem solver: faced with an unexplained discrepancy, you don't just correct it, you get to the root cause and ensure it doesn't happen again You are comfortable in a developing environment where not everything is yet documented, and you enjoy structuring things You are autonomous, rigorous, and able to prioritize in a fast-paced context You can simplify technical subjects and work with non-financial stakeholders (operations, billing, IT) Why you'll love working with us?
