Job description
About Us
The semiconductor industry demands increasingly powerful chips: more bandwidth, less energy consumption. Our technology delivers precisely that. We connect chips to computer networks that process enormous amounts of data with minimal latency. Together, we are changing the way the world is connected.
In Zoetermeer, our graphene team is working on the future of the semiconductor industry, from research and development to industrialization. At the intersection of materials science and semiconductor technology, the team develops the processes to produce, characterize, and integrate graphene. These processes form the basis of our integrated graphene photonics. The team is pioneering new process technology and scaling it up to production-ready solutions. This is how groundbreaking research is transformed into the building blocks of tomorrow's chips.
The Role
Black Semiconductor is looking for a motivated Technician (m/f/x) to join our team at our location in Zoetermeer, Netherlands.
You will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliable operation of all technical systems supporting our cleanroom environment. You will be responsible for maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work on facilities such as air handling, gas, water, and electrical systems. This role is ideal for a hands-on professional with technical insight who enjoys working independently, solving technical challenges, and developing new skills in a highly controlled and innovative environment.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure the safe and reliable operation of cleanroom facilities, including HVAC, supply and exhaust air, gas, water, and electrical infrastructure.
Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on production and test equipment in the cleanroom and cleanroom systems, as well as incoming utilities.
Diagnose and resolve technical problems to minimize downtime and ensure operational continuity.
Coordinate and execute maintenance work, adhering to standards and safety regulations.
Take responsibility for technical challenges and proactively identify opportunities for system improvements and increased reliability.
Your Qualifications
Completed vocational training in a mechanical, technical, or maintenance-related field (e.g., automotive mechanic, industrial mechanic, mechatronics technician, or equivalent).
Practical experience with mechanical systems and basic knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, gas, or utility systems.
Strong hands-on mentality with the confidence to tackle unfamiliar technical challenges and learn new technologies.
Ability to work independently, set priorities, and take full responsibility for assigned tasks.
Problem-solving attitude, strong troubleshooting skills, and willingness to work in a cleanroom environment with strict quality and safety standards.
Comfortable with practical work in cleanroom, laboratory, and facility environments, including using ladders to access elevated areas and working in confined spaces below the cleanroom when necessary.
Able to safely perform physically demanding maintenance and installation tasks, such as replacing HEPA filters, operating valves, positioning gas cylinders, and moving heavy vacuum pumps. For heavy loads, appropriate aids and colleague support will be utilized.
Strong communication skills in English, preferably also in Dutch to communicate with external parties, management, and operators.
Experience in the semiconductor industry is not required. You will receive the necessary training and support to familiarize yourself with the equipment and further develop your technical skills.
What Success Looks Like
Taking full responsibility for the cleanroom infrastructure, ensuring reliable operation of air handling, gas, water, exhaust, and electrical systems with minimal downtime.
Growing into a trusted technical expert within the team, by proactively identifying issues, implementing practical solutions, and contributing to a safe and efficient work environment.
Demonstrating strong autonomy and a sense of responsibility, by managing maintenance and repair tasks independently and effectively prioritizing in a dynamic environment.
Continuously expanding technical knowledge and skills, quickly mastering new systems and technologies while maintaining the high standards required within a cleanroom environment.
