Job description

Job Objective

The precious metals chemist is responsible for performing analyses with the utmost rigor and precision to ensure the highest quality of results for our clients.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform precise weighings, following preparation requests made by the Supervisor, in accordance with instructions provided in the notebook.
  • Prioritize preparing crucibles for weighing, with different flows, depending on daily needs.
  • Prioritize preparing crucibles for fusion, according to material sheets.
  • Melt materials in 1 or 2 steps using various furnaces, ensuring the quality of Pb pellets obtained.
  • Cut Pb pellets.
  • Clean precious metal balls.
  • Perform complete or partial acid solutions.
  • Prioritize purification by mixed method prior to fusion.
  • Prioritize denitrification using an oven.
  • Prioritize peroxide fusion.
  • Quantitatively transfer solutions.
  • Perform ultra-precise weighings using a microbalance.
  • Analyze solutions using ICP-OES.
  • Complete tracing sheets with all required information.
  • Perform analyses using appropriate techniques, respecting the latest version of established methods.
  • Stay informed about changes and updates by participating in Service meetings or reading reports and displayed documents.
  • Maintain equipment usage (calibration, maintenance/cleaning) and complete tracking sheets and equipment files. Any defects must be immediately reported to RQHSE and the Supervisor, and the equipment put out of service with adequate signage.
  • Ensure workspace organization and cleanliness.
  • Ensure replacement of consumed solutions by returning empty bottles/buckets to the prep service (via designated containers) and replacing them with full ones.
  • Perform work in accordance with labor regulations and safety rules (wearing PPE).
  • Participate in company objectives (quality policy) aiming at customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of laboratory analysis techniques
  • Understanding of chemical risks related to products and techniques used
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
