Chief Operating Officer (COO) / Operative Leitung (m/w/d)

The German Relief Association e.V. (DEHIB) networks relief organizations and makes social responsibility economically effective – without donations, without state dependence. What we build pays for itself. To achieve this, we need people who do not shy away from operational responsibility – but seek it.

To further develop our organization professionally, we are looking for an engaged Chief Operating Officer (COO) / Operative Leitung (m/w/d), who builds sustainable structures with the Federal Board, develops operational processes, and professionally steers the implementation of strategic initiatives.

The role is particularly suitable for individuals who enjoy shaping organizations sustainably, taking responsibility, and actively building societal impact.

The activity is honorary, uncompensated, and does not establish an employment relationship.

This position is ideal for accompanying a main occupation and offers the opportunity to take on operational responsibility in a socially relevant future project.

The time commitment lies at around 6-10 hours per week and can be flexibly scheduled. The collaboration takes place entirely remote with regular digital meetings and individual presence terms.

Aufgaben

Operative Gesamtsteuerung & Organisationsentwicklung

• You steer the operational further development of DEHIB together with the Federal Board.
• You ensure that strategic decisions are effectively implemented in sustainable processes and structures.
• You coordinate interdepartmental cooperation between programs, HR / Honorary, Communication, Legal, Digitalization, and other responsibility areas.
• You develop efficient organizational, communication, and coordination processes.
• You support the establishment of clear responsibilities and sustainable work structures within the organization.
• You promote professional, respectful, and scalable cooperation in honorary positions.
• You ensure transparency, commitment, and efficient decision-making processes.

Programme, Projekte & operative Umsetzung

• You coordinate ongoing programs, initiatives, and strategic projects of DEHIB.
• You support the prioritization and operational steering of initiatives and resources.
• You accompany the establishment of new projects and societal initiatives.
• You ensure a structured implementation and sustainable scaling of our activities.
• You support the development of professional management and reporting structures.
• You work on sustainable organizational and growth processes with.

Governance, Qualität & Zusammenarbeit

• You support the establishment of professional governance and quality structures.
• You recognize operational risks, coordination problems, and structural challenges early on.
• You develop pragmatic solutions together with the responsibility areas.
• You support sustainable and transparent decision-making processes.
• You work closely with the Federal Board, project leaders, and external partners.

Qualifikation

• You have experience in organizational development, operations, project management, management, or comparable fields.
• Experience in non-profit organizations, associations, start-ups, social enterprises, or dynamic organizational structures is advantageous.
• You can coordinate complex topics pragmatically and prioritize them.
• You bring organizational strength and implementation capabilities with you.
• You manage to connect people and teams even in decentralized and honorary structures.
• You are interested in societal impact, sustainable organizational development, and innovative approaches.
• Very good German language skills (C1/C2)
