Job description

What will you do?

Together with the CEO and COO, you will work on the further strategic and financial development of the organization. As CFO, you will translate the corporate strategy into concrete growth opportunities by developing scalable revenue and pricing models. For each market, region, entity, business unit, and customer segment, you will analyze where opportunities lie, based on expected customer value, revenue potential, costs, margin, cash flow, risk, and scalability. You will incorporate these insights into business cases that reflect both the customer's perspective and that of Voortman Steel Machinery.

In addition, you will develop clear investment frameworks and identify suitable financing models that align with the nature of the activities and the international context. You will carefully weigh available financing options in terms of impact, liquidity, and return. Based on this, you will advise the board on priorities and ensure that resources are allocated to the initiatives that contribute most to Voortman Steel Machinery's strategic and financial objectives. As part of this, you will also determine under which financial and organizational conditions pilots can be launched and scaled. With clear go/no-go moments per phase, you will ensure that the development and implementation of new revenue and pricing models do not proceed faster than the organization can adopt. Furthermore, you will monitor the financial results of new revenue and pricing models and determine whether the rollout should be accelerated, continued, adjusted, or scaled back. Simultaneously, you will ensure that contracts contain comprehensive agreements and a balanced risk distribution, as well as being executable in all countries where Voortman Steel Machinery is active. In this way, you will work focused on revenue and pricing models that are commercially attractive, financially sound, and scalable.

As CFO, you will actively contribute to the further international growth of Voortman Steel Machinery. To this end, you will develop strategic, financial, and organizational plans so that it is clear for each market and international entity which structure best suits the desired growth. You will coordinate between different departments and entities, without taking over the line responsibility of colleagues. You will also monitor the return, cash flow, and working capital for each country and international entity, and keep an eye on financial, legal, fiscal, contractual, and compliance risks.

The financial steering and control of Voortman Steel Machinery also fall under your responsibility. You will be internationally responsible for consolidation, planning & control, reporting, accounting, treasury, audit, tax, corporate tax, and internal control. Subsequently, you will oversee the preparation of correct and transparent reports per international entity. The daily coordination of these various activities and the management of the Finance department are handled by the Finance Director, with whom you will work closely. You will act as a sparring partner, make adjustments where necessary, monitor the strategic direction of the Finance department, ensure correct governance, and handle subjects with board impact. You will also be the face of Voortman Steel Machinery towards banks, insurers, accountants, and other financial stakeholders.

What makes this role unique?

In this role, you will have the opportunity to visibly shape the next growth phase of Voortman Steel Machinery. You will join an organization where entrepreneurship, innovation, and decisiveness come together: ideas are not only explored but also sharply tested for value creation, return, risk, and scalability. This will give you the space to use your financial expertise and strategic capabilities in developing new propositions, substantiating business cases, and making investment choices that impact the organization's international growth. This makes the position emphatically more than a traditional CFO role: you will not only safeguard the financial foundation but also co-determine how Voortman Steel Machinery translates commercial opportunities into healthy, scalable, and future-proof growth.

Position within the organization

Voortman Steel Machinery develops machines, software, and service solutions that enable steel processing companies to automate and optimize their production processes. The headquarters are located in the Netherlands. Thanks to branches in various countries, effective local support can be provided. The recently opened, large-scale production facility in the United States demonstrates how the organization continues to grow internationally. Development of our LogicSteel software also primarily takes place in England. Furthermore, Voortman has various sales & service hubs worldwide.

As CFO, you will form the board of Voortman Steel Machinery together with the CEO and COO, and together with them, you will direct the development of the Global Management Team and the organization as a whole. Your focus will be on translating the corporate strategy into concrete opportunities for new revenue and pricing models. In this, you will work intensively with the Product Management department, which is responsible for identifying and developing software, machine, and service propositions. As CFO, you will be ultimately responsible for the Finance department and will work closely with the Finance Director, who manages the daily international operational oversight of the department. The HR Manager and Trade Compliance Officer will also report to you. The HR Manager is (partly) responsible for developing the HR strategy and ensuring its operational execution. Additionally, the Trade Compliance Officer ensures that the organization complies with relevant laws and regulations. The Trade Compliance Officer monitors, among other things, the substantive accuracy and effectiveness of implemented measures.

What do we offer?

At Voortman Steel Machinery, you will join a true family business with an informal, committed, and entrepreneurial culture. People know each other, and lines are short. There is ample room to take responsibility, show initiative, and further develop ideas. Our core values of entrepreneurship, craftsmanship, passion for technology, dedication, and collaboration form the basis for how we work and interact with each other. You will see them reflected in the pride with which we develop high-quality technology, in the way teams reinforce each other, and in the shared drive to help customers move forward. This creates a work environment where ambition, commitment, and job satisfaction naturally come together.

In addition to a professional, entrepreneurial, and loyal work environment, you will receive:

  • A competitive salary, commensurate with your knowledge and experience;

  • A suitable pension scheme with ASR, where you and Voortman build pension capital together;

  • A lease car for business and private use;

  • A key role in realizing our strategy with international impact;

  • Working in a modern environment at our Voortman Campus in Rijssen;

What do you bring?

We are looking for an entrepreneurial, strategic, and decisive CFO with a completed master's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field. A title such as RA, RC, or CPA is a must. You have at least five years of experience as a CFO, Divisional CFO, Senior Finance Director, Head of Finance, or Director Corporate Finance, preferably within an international original equipment manufacturer (OEM), industrial technology company, technically complex B2B organization, or top-tier consultancy firm. You can substantiate these with solid business cases and scenario analyses. Additionally, you have extensive experience in developing financing models and structuring capital allocation based on (expected) return, risks, and strategic contribution.

  • Decisive and results-oriented: you are decisive and can make timely and well-considered choices based on available information. Once you have made a choice, you dare to stand by it. You possess persuasiveness, can create support, and carefully involve internal and external stakeholders in strategic changes. You also actively steer towards concrete results and achieve demonstrable positive financial impact.

  • Change management and environmental awareness: you have experience in implementing internal changes and new revenue and pricing models, as well as adjusting them in a timely manner. You are also adept at translating new revenue and pricing models into clear, manageable processes and roles. You ensure a structured step-by-step implementation and are skilled at involving and guiding colleagues during changes. Even under pressure and in complex situations, you remain calm, maintain an overview, and can switch gears quickly. You also have a keen eye for relationships, can weigh interests effectively, and anticipate developments in a timely manner. You have a good understanding of cultural and organizational differences in an international context.

  • Connecting ability and communication: you are involved and know how to build and maintain sustainable professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders, such as banks, accountants, and insurers. You communicate clearly, inform stakeholders promptly about relevant developments, and are approachable. You can convey complex subjects understandably and tailor your communication to different interlocutors. Additionally, you possess strong Dutch and English communication skills, both oral and written.

  • Inspiring leadership: your leadership is focused on growth, trust, and development. You know how to coach, inspire, and guide employees while allowing for ownership and responsibility. You make adjustments where necessary, encourage collaboration, and help colleagues utilize their potential. In this way, you contribute to an environment where people feel involved and work towards common goals.

  • Independent and reflective attitude: you have an independent, critical, and constructive attitude, are open to feedback, can critically evaluate your own actions, and want to continuously learn.
