We are seeking a skilled and passionate Chef to join our talented kitchen team at Haveli Restaurant. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing, preparing and cooking a variety of dishes, with a focus on Indian cuisine, including traditional curries and specialty dishes. You will have to ensure that each meal meets our high standards for quality and presentation.
Location: Stanhope Gardens, NSW
Salary range: $70,000-$90,000 (based on work experience and skillset)
Role: Full-time
You will be responsible for
- Plan and develop menus, estimate food and labour costs, and order supplies to ensure efficient kitchen operations and cost control.
- Prepare and cook a variety of dishes, with a focus on Indian cuisine, adhering to recipes and techniques to maintain consistency and quality.
- Monitor and manage the quality of dishes throughout preparation and presentation to meet the restaurant’s standards.
- Control food costs through portion control and waste reduction, and ensure proper inventory management, including stock rotation and shelf-life criteria.
- Ensure food safety and accommodate special dietary needs, such as allergies and intolerances, while complying with all food safety and sanitation regulations.
- Demonstrate and advise on cooking techniques, contribute to staff training and development, and assist in recruitment and induction processes.
- Maintain the highest standards of food quality, presentation, and taste, and ensure the menu is presented in a creative and professional manner.
- Develop and manage service procedures and timings alongside the Sous Chef to ensure efficient kitchen operation and timely service.
- Establish and enforce top-notch food storage, kitchen cleanliness, and safety standards, including minimizing energy waste and maintaining kitchen equipment.
- Contribute to brainstorming and discussing innovative menu ideas, ensuring the kitchen operates profitably and smoothly while continually enhancing the menu and service.
Requirements:
- Diploma in Hospitality Management or Certificate IV or equivalent
- Proven experience for at least 2 years as a Chef or in a similar role within a professional kitchen environment in Australia.
- Strong expertise in preparing Indian dishes and curries, with a deep understanding of traditional ingredients and cooking methods.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to food safety and hygiene practices.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and communicate effectively with kitchen staff.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings and weekends.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

- Innovative approach to menu development and dish presentation in Indian dishes.
- Ability to manage kitchen operations and maintain high standards of cleanliness.

- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and hygiene practices.
- Understanding of Australian OHS and workplace safety
