JOB TITLE : Surgical Technologist SUPERVISION RECEIVED : Physician and/or Registered Nurse GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES : Surgical technologists, also called scrubs and surgical or operating room technicians, assist in surgical operations under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, or other surgical personnel. Surgical technologists are members of operating room teams, which most commonly include surgeons, anesthesiologists, and circulating nurses. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS : A graduate from a recognized Surgical Technology program or equivalent experience. CERTIFICATION : Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Certified Operating Room Technician (CORT). SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS : Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment; ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information; ability to follow instructions and protocols; ability to work as part of a team; ability to adapt to changing situations. PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Must be able to stand for long periods, walk, bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, lift up to 50 pounds, and move quickly in response to emergency situations. WORK ENVIRONMENT : Operating room, patient care areas, and other healthcare settings.
