Job Description

Are you an enthusiastic catering or hospitality manager with a heart for hospitality? Then read on quickly. Because maybe we at Paresto – the internal defense caterer – are looking for you! Good food is crucial for the deployability of our defense colleagues. As catering manager of the Air Force Tower in Breda, you will contribute to this.
As a defense employee, your work matters, and for clarity: you don't have to be military to do it. Paresto consists of 95% civilian employees in the service of the Ministry of Defence.
What will you do?
From a hospitable perspective, you and your team will provide high-level service. Guests in your company restaurant and users of other (banqueting) services are central. At the forefront, you make guests feel at home and are visible as a manager. You are the 'face' and the point of contact for the location. Occasionally, you roll up your sleeves to help out: you support your team where needed, including with tasks like cashier duties or restocking. You manage to find a balance between front and back of house, because you also have important (administrative) tasks such as creating schedules, quotes, and various (progress) reports. Where necessary, you also attend local meetings at the barracks and, of course, you maintain a good relationship with clients, such as the barracks commander. You advise them on matters such as meeting lunches, special dinners, and receptions. In doing so, you show your hospitable attitude and think solution-oriented.
This location is only a lunch location. In principle, you determine your own schedule, always taking your team into account and taking responsibility where necessary. A weekend shift may occur very occasionally. Nevertheless, we can say that generally applies: with us, you work in hospitality but with more regular working hours and better employment conditions.
As catering manager, you will lead all staff at the location, both the kitchen and service staff, who are managed by the head chef with whom you work closely. As a leader, you know how to recognize and develop talents and show genuine interest. You motivate by providing the right amount of ownership and constructive criticism. Together, you are strong!
In all this, the assistant catering manager is your right hand. They will also take over your tasks in your absence. You will report to the district manager, who acts as a bridge between operations and the head office, also called the service office.
Brief overview of your tasks:
• Coaching leadership of the team
• Performing important (administrative) tasks such as schedules, quotes, checking cash flows, preparing and/or checking (progress) reports, ensuring HACCP compliance, etc.
• Being the point of contact as the 'face' of the location
• Participating in the front-of-house operations when necessary
• Maintaining a good relationship with internal stakeholders and clients such as the barracks commander
• Maintaining good contacts with external parties such as suppliers
• Liaising with the Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority or other bodies that control environmental hygiene
• Building a strong internal Paresto network with colleagues from operations and head office (service office), such as the Assortment and Food Safety departments

Also good to know: we call this position 'Catering Manager B'. There are other variations that fall into different salary scales. The difference is mainly in the size and complexity of the location.

Job Requirements

• Manager/business manager Fast Service MBO level 4 or demonstrably equivalent combination of education and experience
• You have at least one year of experience in a similar role in hospitality or catering

Other Employment Conditions

From 2025, defense employees will no longer receive holiday pay and the year-end bonus as separate payments; instead, they will accrue this monthly through the Individual Choice Budget (ICB). The ICB for defense employees totals 16.33 percent of the salary.
With the ICB, defense employees can decide for themselves when, for what, and how much budget they spend on time, money, or fiscal facilities. This can be up to the monthly accrued budget.

The ICB can be used for:

• A maximum of 15 percent of the salary can be used monthly for the exchange of the commuting allowance.
• The monthly difference between the allowance for own transport costs for commuting and the fiscal maximum.
• A bicycle for personal use, including bicycle accessories and bicycle insurance.
• A computer that can also be used for work or study, including computer accessories and computer insurance.
• A battery or electrical parts for a bicycle.
• The payment of union membership fees.
• The Ministry of Defence expects to further expand the possibilities of the ICB in the future.
