The Role
Hays Recruitment is seeking expressions of interest from experienced Carpenters and a Carpenters Apprentice to join the facilities and maintenance team at McMurdo Station, Antarctica.
This is a rare opportunity to work on critical buildings supporting the United States Antarctic Program, in one of the most remote and challenging environments in the world.

Location: McMurdo Station, Antarctica (approximately 1,000 residents during the summer season, 250 in winter)
Deployment: October and November 2026

Pay: Carpenter - $55 per hour // Carpenter Apprentice - $45 per hour

About you:

• Ideally a qualified OR experienced carpenter
• Confident interpreting plans and drawings
• Can-do, positive attitude
• Physically fit and able to pass intensive medical checks
• Willing to receive flu and tdap vaccination prior to departure
• Willing to undergo police checks

What to expect when you’re down there:
• Accommodation provided (shared bunkroom style)
• Free food (not Michelin‑star, but hearty and plentiful)
• Free flights from any major New Zealand airport
• Work schedule: Monday to Saturday, approximately 7am – 5pm
• Exposure to unique plant, systems and infrastructure not found anywhere else in New Zealand
