About The Role Sydney Local Health District’s Community Health Centres have a long and proud history of delivering care in the community including prevention, early intervention, assessment, treatment, health maintenance and continuing care services designed to improve and support the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities. The primary purpose of the role is to provide high quality diagnostic and consultative services in Community Paediatrics (ADHD and STrIDeS Shared Care), and to participate in teaching, research, quality improvement and administrative activities within the SLHD Community Paediatrics Department as required. The Career Medical Officer Will Provide Expert GP Advice To Treating Clinicians In SLHD’s Specialist Team For Intellectual Disability Sydney (STrIDeS) And Community Paediatric Teams And Primary Health Care, Patients And Carers In Relation To Patients Across The Lifespan (childhood, Adolescence And Adulthood) With Intellectual Disability And Children Or Adolescents With ADHD Which Enhances the understanding by SLHD clinicians of the context and issues that impact health care delivery by GPs for patients with intellectual disability and ADHD in general and for specific patients. Increases the engagement of GPs in the management of patients with intellectual disability or ADHD, including those seen by STrIDeS and Community Paediatric teams in general and for specific patients. Contributes expert primary health care knowledge and experience to relevant SLHD team based clinical discussions, strategic planning and projects. Provides leadership and contributes primary health expertise to other SLHD or CESPHN initiatives that serve to improve management of the health care needs, including health prevention and promotion and implementation of reasonable adjustments, of people with intellectual disability or ADHD. Contributes to the development of integrated models of care for these populations. Initiates and uses findings from clinical research and other initiatives to improve health care by GPs for people with intellectual disability and ADHD. The Career Medical Officer will ensure a high standard of professional performance and encouragement of an academic environment which supports education, research and professional development. For more information, please view the Position Description Ideal Candidate Current medical practitioner, registered, or eligible for registration, with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), with at least seven years of full-time clinical experience in a relevant area of practice. Demonstrated experience in General practice and shared models of care relevant to the role of Career Medical Officer, with sound knowledge of contemporary evidence based best practice in the specialty.
