Job description
Ready for a new route? Bring your experience to GVB. As a bus driver, you are the calling card of Amsterdam's public transport and help keep the city accessible with every ride.
Connect the world in Amsterdam
A full bus. Via the announcement system, you ask if everyone wants to move further to the back. The doors close. You check your mirrors and depart.
From quiet residential areas to busy city streets. The morning rush hour, an open bridge, a tight turn, or a double-parked delivery van. Whatever you encounter along the way, you have it under control.
All of Amsterdam passes by in your bus. In the hustle and bustle of the city, among all those people, you are in your element. Safely, comfortably, and on time bringing travelers to their destination, that's what your work is about.
What do we offer you
You take good care of our travelers, so we take good care of you. This is what you get from us:
- A salary of up to € 3,565 gross per month based on 36 hours, depending on your work experience.
- High irregular duty allowances.
- A signing bonus of € 1,500 net (check the conditions).
- A 13th month, 8% holiday pay, and a sustainable employability allowance of 3.5%.
- A well-arranged pension with ABP. GVB pays two-thirds of the premium.
- Free and unlimited travel with GVB's public transport, even in your free time. Your family can travel at a discount.
- An average of 21 vacation days. You can buy extra leave.
- Extra leave hours instead of Good Friday and May 1st.
- A contribution of € 84.91 per month towards your health insurance premium.
- You travel for free with public transport to and from work. Outside public transport hours, you will be reimbursed € 0.23 per kilometer.
- A referral bonus of € 1,000 net for every new colleague who successfully starts at GVB through you.
A paid training
In 10 weeks, you will learn about Amsterdam's routes and GVB's working methods full-time. GVB pays for the full training and you receive a salary from day 1. After that, you can start working part-time.
A contract that suits you
- Contract: If you work 24 hours or more? Then you can be directly employed by GVB, with a one-year contract and the prospect of a permanent position. Below 24 hours, you always work through the employment agency.
- Hours: With less than two years of experience, you get a maximum of 32 guaranteed hours per week. With two years of experience or more, this is a maximum of 36 hours. Working more is possible.
- Shifts: You work in variable shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays. Your working days are known well in advance. A shift lasts a maximum of 8 hours and 45 minutes.
What you bring
You are hospitable and enjoy interacting with people. Safety always comes first, and you find it important to be on time. Your experience makes you feel comfortable in the busy traffic of Amsterdam. In addition, you:
- Have a valid D driver's license and experience as a bus driver.
- Have Code 95 or are willing to obtain it (again).
- Have at least MBO level 3 working and thinking ability.
- Speak, read, and understand Dutch well.
- Are at least 18 years old and between 1.65 and 2 meters tall.
- Can see colors and signals excellently, possibly with glasses or contact lenses.
- Are available full-time for at least 10 weeks during the training.
- Can work irregular shifts and travel to different boarding locations with your own transportation.
- Are eligible for a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG).
Your team
As a bus driver, you drive alone through the city. Yet, you never really work alone, because a whole team is behind you. Think of traffic control, planners, team managers, and of course your fellow bus drivers. You encounter them regularly on the road and during your breaks at the end points in the city.
Colleagues sometimes call GVB 'a village' for a reason: you know each other, people know your name, and they stand up for each other.
