Dr. Bernhard Burger AG is a growing family business in its second generation and one of the leading partners for goldsmiths, jewelers, and precious metal dealers. Together with our joint venture Burger & Gyr Edelmetalle Recycling AG at the same location in Keltern, between Pforzheim and Karlsruhe, we combine precious metal recycling, analysis, settlement, metal accounts, trading, and our own manufacturing.

Our accounting department reflects the value flows of both companies: from scrap settlement and metal accounts to monthly and annual financial statements. In the next two years, we will implement a new, fully integrated ERP system based on Odoo. This will increase the scope of topics that we need to think through from a commercial perspective, coordinate, and finalize.

Therefore, we are looking for a personality with a business management overview, who can significantly relieve the commercial management in closing, taxes, financing, and projects, actively participate in accounting, and contribute actively to the ERP project. You will not have to prepare an annual financial statement alone, but you will be able to confidently take on essential closing tasks and work closely with tax advisors and auditors.

We measure success by ensuring that financial statements and reports for both companies are available on time and are comprehensible, that commercial management is relieved of coordination and support tasks, and that our processes run more smoothly and securely after the ERP implementation than they do today.

The Position at a Glance

You will take on essential closing tasks for two companies, relieve our commercial management in taxes, financing, and analyses, and, as a Key User, support the introduction of our new Odoo-based ERP system.

What Areas of Responsibility Await You?

Your focus will be on accounting. In the ERP project, you will be the Key User for Accounting/Finance: you will monitor progress, test if everything functions as intended, think and act along, and take on your own tasks or sub-projects as needed. Project responsibility will remain with our commercial management.

• Participation in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements according to HGB for two companies: closing entries, account reconciliations, provisions, fixed asset accounting, data exchange with tax advisors and auditors
• Operational support for financial accounting, VAT pre-declarations, and tax-related questions in daily business
• Support for commercial management in all business management topics: analyses, evaluations, documentation for the board and banks, contract and financing issues
• ERP Implementation: Co-formulate finance requirements, document processes, reconcile master data, conduct tests, Key User Finance
• Learn and shape the specifics of the precious metal industry: metal accounts, reverse charge, metal balance, inventory valuation
• Further develop and automate processes in accounting, actively participating: from the voucher to the closing entry, with potential for your own areas of responsibility and technical coordination within the team

What Characterizes You?

• Business administration degree with a focus on accounting or qualification as a Certified Accountant (IHK), Tax Specialist, or a comparable qualification
• Several years of professional experience in accounting for a medium-sized company or a tax firm, with involvement in annual financial statements according to HGB
• Overview of commercial interrelationships: You think beyond individual bookings and can prepare topics for decision-making
• Pragmatic hands-on mentality: You actively get involved operationally, find practical solutions instead of perfect concepts, and bring topics to completion
• Structured, independent way of working, clear prioritization, and open communication within the team
• Very good Excel skills; experience with a system change or ERP implementation is a plus, as is Odoo knowledge, but neither is a prerequisite
• Sensitivity in handling confidential information
