Paid Internship (6 Months) in Product Design (all genders)

The Heimplanet Development GmbH from Hamburg is an innovative company specializing in the development of high-quality outdoor products. The small team of outdoor and design enthusiasts is particularly known for its unique inflatable tents that are used worldwide in extreme conditions. As a member of 1% for the Planet, HEIMPLANET places great value on resource conservation and works continuously to improve materials and production processes.

We pay attention to well-thought-out product designs where function, durability, and design come together. To ensure that our products perform reliably in outdoor use and meet our requirements for material and process quality, the continuous development of the design is a central part of our work.

We are looking for support from an Pflichtpraktikant*in in the field of product design.

Aufgaben

• Mitarbeit im gesamten Produktentwicklungsprozess: Support us actively from the first idea/sketch to concept phases and preparation for series production.
• Konzept- und Entwurfsarbeit: Develop ideas, compare variants, and prepare design directions.
• Grafische Designaufgaben: Create, for example, layouts, presentations, product graphics/branding elements, and supporting visuals.
• Material- und Komponentenrecherche: Research suitable materials and coatings, evaluate samples, and develop sustainable options with us.
• Color & Trim Entwicklung: Dive into color worlds, combinations, and details and translate these into harmonious proposals.
• Erstellen von Funktionsmodellen: Create functional models to test construction, handling, and details.

Qualifikation

• Du befindest dich im Studium im Bereich Produktdesign or a comparable study program and are looking for a Pflichtpraktikum for 6 months.
• Interest in Materials, processing, and details (e.g. fabrics, coatings, trims), including enthusiasm for research, samples, and comparisons.
• First knowledge of Adobe (mainly InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) for designing concepts, graphics, and documentation.
• Ideal would be to have already gained some experience with 3D-Tools (e.g. Rhino) and a basic understanding of forms, proportions, and construction.
• Hands-on mentality: You work practically, try things out, and support prototyping/modeling.
• Structured, reliable, and self-reliant working style.
• You bring Enthusiasm for Outdoor & Everyday with you.

Benefits

• You will gain insights into the entire creative and development process of an outdoor brand.
• Active participation at the interface between design, material, function, and brand.
• The opportunity to bring in your own ideas and taking responsibility.
• A small, engaged team with short decision-making paths and direct collaboration with our product designer.
• Much learning potential in Materials, prototyping, Color & Trim, as well as practical implementation of product-specific details.
• Paid internship.

We can teach you a lot and at the same time look forward to when you bring your own ideas, thoughts, and previous experiences from the start.

We are looking for someone who is interested in getting involved in our products, materials, and design process, taking responsibility, and actively contributing to the further development of our designs.

If you enjoy thinking about functional details, combining design and use, and working closely with a product in a small team, then you're exactly right with us.

You can also give us an insight into your previous work - for example, through projects, study-related works or practical experiences. If you have a portfolio or suitable links (e.g. LinkedIn, blog, own website), we'd be happy to see them - but they're not a must.

We look forward to your application!

Lovely greetings from the Hafencity,

Your HEIMPLANET Team
