Will you come work as a security guard for the Ministry of Defence?

Our Defence Security and Guarding Organisation (DBBO) is looking for several new colleagues to strengthen the team at Vredepeel.

Defence is in full swing, and over 75,000 military personnel, reservists, and civilian employees are committed to fulfilling primary task 1: protecting what is dear to us! Professional security of all Defence locations is part of this. This is the work of the approximately 2,500 DBBO employees, who work together 24/7 to secure Defence's TBBs (Protected Interests) of people and materiel.

Working as a security guard at DBBO is important and responsible work. You will therefore receive continuous training from experienced instructors, including on the use of your means of coercion such as the service weapon, baton, and handcuffs.
You will receive an excellent salary, including a bonus for irregular services. In addition to your salary, you will receive an Individual Choice Budget (IKB). This budget consists of a fixed percentage of your salary (16.33%) and offers you the opportunity to make choices that suit your personal wishes and life stage. For example, you can have the IKB paid out, use it for extra leave, or invest it in training.

Where will you work?
The DBBO provides 24/7 guarding and security for everything related to Defence within the Kingdom, from vast terrains and important buildings to vehicles of inestimable value. At the DBBO, you work with well-trained colleagues who all have one goal: to ensure that everything belonging to Defence is properly guarded and secured.

You will start working at DBBO Vredepeel, with your duty station being the Lieutenant-General Best Barracks. This barracks is the home base for ground-based air defence (DGLC). Over 800 Defence employees work at this barracks, and this number is growing. You will be employed as a civilian; in other words, you are not a military member, but you work for Defence and wear a uniform and carry a weapon in your work. Approximately 700 security employees currently work in your region. Together, you ensure guarding and security. You will report to the Team Leader of your team and will also work closely with the Watch Coordinator, your fellow security guards, and the dog handlers in the region.

What will you do?
Terrains, buildings, vehicles, materiel: everything belonging to Defence must be guarded and secured. As a security guard at DBBO, you are the silent force at Defence locations. Together with your colleagues, you will perform a combination of tasks. This includes, for example, access controls, observations, patrols, interventions, and first response. Your daily tasks include:
• Patrolling Defence locations;
• Observing for irregularities and monitoring camera footage;
• Identifying suspicious situations and acting effectively when necessary;
• Responding to alarm notifications, taking action with your means of coercion if the situation demands it;
• Performing access controls and ensuring that only authorised personnel gain access;
• Operating access systems;
• Providing support during incidents within the Defence units.

A good basic training and regular refresher courses are part of the job. This is also necessary to perform this responsible work professionally and to effectively deploy the means of coercion correctly.

Other Employment Conditions

From 2025, Defence employees will no longer receive holiday pay and year-end bonus as separate payments, but will accrue them monthly through the Individual Choice Budget (IKB). The IKB for Defence employees totals 16.33 percent of the salary. With the IKB, Defence employees can decide for themselves when, what, and how much budget they spend on time, money, or fiscal facilities. This can be up to the monthly accrued budget. The IKB can be used for:

• A maximum of 15 percent of the salary can be used monthly for the exchange of the commuting allowance.
• The monthly difference between the allowance for travel expenses for own transport and the fiscal maximum.
• A bicycle for personal use, including bicycle accessories and bicycle insurance.
• A computer that can also be used for work or study, including computer accessories and computer insurance.
• A battery or electrical components for a bicycle.
• The payment of union dues.
• Defence expects to further expand the possibilities of the IKB in the future.
