Specifications Writer

As a specifications writer, you translate quantities, phasing, and execution details of a project into a complete RAW specification. You are the indispensable link that ensures plans are practically executable.

What you will do

You ensure that rail infrastructure projects are well-prepared and enter the execution phase without surprises. You write RAW specifications for civil works, so that costs and work are clear in advance and projects can start smoothly. We work on diverse projects in the city, examples of which are the Oranje Loper, the Mercatorplein, and the Alexanderplein.

You gather information from drawings, consult with project managers and contractors, and translate this into complete and correct specifications. Additionally, you contribute ideas about sustainable choices in materials and design. Your tasks include:

• Consulting with project managers and contractors about technical details.
• Gathering information from drawings and from colleagues.
• Independently writing and checking RAW specifications.
• Archiving and managing specifications in Projectwise.
• Contributing ideas about the sustainability of rail infrastructure.

Depending on your experience, you will start with a smaller project, such as replacing a section of track in a straight line. You can grow towards more complex assignments with multiple phases, such as the redesign of an intersection. There are ample opportunities to develop towards coordinating and more complex tasks and eventually grow into a senior role where you receive more responsibility.

In short, you are the connecting link between design and execution. With your work, you visibly contribute to safe, sustainable, and future-proof public transport in and around Amsterdam.

What you bring

You work accurately, think analytically, know how to handle detailed information well, and have a strong drive to learn. What else you bring:

• A completed MBO 4 or HBO education in civil engineering.
• Relevant work experience.
• Demonstrable experience in writing RAW specifications obtained from studies and/or work.
• Strong numerical skills and excellent command of the Dutch language, both spoken and written.
• Good communication skills and a proactive attitude.

• A salary of at least € 3,553 and a maximum of € 5,081 gross per month based on 36 hours per week (scale 9). The grading depends on education and work experience.

Your team

You will join the project office of GVB Techniek, within the engineering team. The team consists of eighteen colleagues with diverse technical backgrounds who work together on substantive projects within tram and metro infrastructure. You will work with structural engineers, draftsmen, and advisors on civil and rail engineering issues. The atmosphere is informal and collegial.
