Job description

Your Role

B2B companies and consulting firms in Germany, in particular, all communicate almost identically: expert articles that nobody reads, stock photos, a brand presence that could be swapped out for any competitor. Anyone with something to say in this industry and who says it well immediately stands out – because it happens so rarely.

Vogel is one of the most successful medium-sized consulting firms in Germany – several thousand medium-sized companies entrust us with their tax, commercial, and strategic matters. We are building the leading consulting platform for the German Mittelstand on this foundation: we grow organically and through acquisitions, consolidate a fragmented market, and integrate each new entity into a common setup. What we lack is not substance, but its visibility. This role exists to change that, and it is one of the first of its kind for us.

You have completed your studies or have a background in journalism or design, and you enjoy writing and producing content yourself. You don't want to work in an agency where you write briefs for others, nor in a corporate communications department where every sentence goes through four approval stages. You want to find topics, translate them into text and moving images, and see what the results are. At Vogel, you will find a reservoir of topics that is unparalleled in this industry – and the freedom to tap into it yourself.

The Brand function at Vogel is currently being established; you will be part of the founding team. The natural progression leads to a Manager level in Brand & Content after 24 to 36 months.

Your Responsibilities

Strategy and Formats

  • Take responsibility for your own formats from idea to publication – expert articles, newsletters, LinkedIn content, client information.

  • Conduct discussions with our tax advisors and consultants and translate their technical substance into texts that are also read by non-experts. Your benchmark: anyone who reads the text must have understood something afterward that they didn't know before.

  • Build a topic repository and maintain an editorial plan that holds up even when operational demands are high.

Moving Images and Production

  • Produce video formats yourself – concept, shooting, editing, sound design. You are the producer, not the client.

  • Develop formats that fit our substance: explainer videos on technical topics, interviews with entrepreneurs, insights into our work.

  • Maintain production quality without losing momentum. We iterate in short cycles and refine the details ourselves.

Channels, Distribution, and Impact

  • Manage distribution across our channels and adapt content to the respective format, rather than posting the same thing everywhere.

  • Measure what is read and viewed, and draw conclusions from it. A format that reaches no one after three months will be discontinued, not defended.

  • Collaborate with the Growth department so that content contributes to both client and candidate outreach – both sides of our growth require the same good stories.

Your Perspectives

What you will have delivered after 6 months:

  • You are fully responsible for at least five ongoing formats, from idea to distribution.

  • You have been responsible for your own video productions that have been published.

  • You have permanently integrated at least one element into the Vogel brand that distinguishes it from competitors.

What you will have delivered after 12 months:

  • You have measurably increased our visibility in at least one channel and can demonstrate how.

  • You are the person our consultants approach with topics proactively.

  • You have developed at least five formats that did not exist before and are now a regular part of our content.

What you will have delivered after 24 months:

  • You are responsible for our editorial line and have a say in which topics we cover.

  • You have mentored interns and passed on your production standards.

  • You are a candidate for the next Manager position in Brand & Content.

How the role will develop:

The next step is a Manager role in Brand & Content. This requires independently developed formats with demonstrable impact, not additional years of professional experience. From there, two paths lead further: a specialist career with editorial and production expertise, or a leadership career with your own team.

What You Bring

Experience & Track Record

  • You have completed a degree in Communication, Journalism, Media, Humanities, or a related field – or have completed journalistic training.

  • You have already published yourself: student newspaper, your own newsletter, blog, podcast, a channel with an audience, or contributions to a publication.

  • You have produced yourself – edited, sound-designed, published. Show us your work, not certificates.

  • Profiles that don't fit the above criteria but possess strong writing and production skills are explicitly invited – we evaluate based on contribution, not label. Specifically: people with their own channel and a demonstrable audience without a relevant degree; career changers from publishing or local journalism; graduates from completely different fields who have consistently produced content on the side. The stated range refers to the primary profile. Those with a different background will start at a different market price and converge to the role's level after twelve months of proven performance – the logic behind this is explained in our compensation principles.

Skills & Work Style

  • You write well and quickly. Both together, not one at the expense of the other.

  • Ideally, you master editing and moving image production at a level that leads to publishable results without external help.

  • You use AI as a matter-of-course tool – research, rough drafts, transcription, variations for different channels. The final polish remains with you.

  • You immerse yourself in technical topics until you understand them. Those who write about tax issues without thoroughly understanding them will be immediately recognized by our readers.

Mindset & Personality

  • You have taste. You recognize when a text or an edit is good without being told the criteria.

  • You have the humility to learn from practitioners. The tax advisor with twenty years of practice has the stories – you have the craft to tell them.

  • You keep your word on deadlines. A format lives on rhythm, not on individual good issues.

  • You strive to set the highest standard in everything you deliver – not because someone is checking, but because mediocrity personally bothers you.

What You Won't Find With Us

  • Not a marketing job where you commission agencies and review reports. We produce ourselves – texts, videos, formats. You are a producer, not a client account manager.

  • Not a glossy agency process. We iterate in short cycles, produce in small teams, and refine the details ourselves.

  • Not an approval marathon through four levels. You publish with brief consultation – and take responsibility for what is communicated.

  • Not a corporate corset where you wait for promotions. Growth here comes from contribution, not years of service.

  • Not a purely desk-bound setup. You will be present at appointments, events, and shoots, even if it doesn't always fit the calendar.

FAQ

1. What is Vogel – and where do you work?

Vogel is one of Germany's leading consulting firms for medium-sized businesses – a family business since 1959, from Aalen – and is building the leading consulting platform for the Mittelstand on this basis. We are growing at several locations: in Aalen/Ostwürttemberg as the established headquarters and in Munich as a new hub. At both locations, we are looking for people across all functions – from tax consulting and advisory services to the strategic teams building the platform.

2. How should the salary bands be understood?

Intentionally broad – and specified at every point. We differentiate based on track record and market value, not on degree: scarce, highly sought-after profiles at the upper end, less scarce at the lower end. We calibrate exclusively on the market – two people with similar experience can earn differently with us.

3. How much – and how – do people work at Vogel?

We measure by what you achieve, not by hours. However, it's also true: if you're looking for a 9-to-5, you're not in the first place with us. We are looking for people who work intensively out of their own motivation because the tasks are worth it. How you allocate your time is largely up to you. What we share: we work together in person – culture, sparring, and the best ideas emerge from daily proximity. We are not a remote company and do not have extensive home office policies; occasional remote days are not a problem.

4. How does the application process work?

Lean, fast, transparent – and tiered according to profile. For entry-level roles (internship, working student, career entry), two interviews and a short work sample are usually sufficient; experienced roles are a bit more extensive. For selected senior roles, we are exploring the possibility of incorporating a joint working day in the future so that both sides can get to know each other better. It always applies: scheduled appointments, swift decisions, substantial feedback – regardless of the outcome.

5. How does variable compensation work?

Tied to performance quarterly, evaluated qualitatively. The scale increases with the level: up to 20% Associate, 27.5% Manager, 35% Senior Manager, 42.5% Director, 50% VP. The expected value for good performance – you meet the requirements, set your own accents, pass the keeper test – is around 50% of the maximum; the maximum bonus is not the norm. The focus is on a holistic assessment by your manager: ownership, quality, learning curve, collaboration, impact.

6. How do I develop myself – what career paths are there?

Two active paths: Mastery (specialist depth, expert career) and Pioneer (leadership, management). You choose the direction after onboarding, usually in years 1-3. Career entry is not a special path, but the early part of the same journey – from working student or intern to Associate, for the best without a new application process.

7. Team, culture, vacation?

A joint lunch is an open daily offer – not mandatory; whoever wants to join can, everyone can eat anytime. In addition, dinners, social events, and offsites at regular intervals – not as a mandatory program, but because a good team also shares time outside of work. Benefits: well-thought-out and substantial, not symbolic. Vacation: 28 days.

8. I know someone – is there a referral bonus?

Yes – €2,500 for every successfully filled position (no internships). A brief context is enough: who you are thinking of, for which role, why. It doesn't have to be perfect, but it must be substantial.
