Job Description

The geopolitical developments have made the need for a smart and strong military clear. The Netherlands may unintentionally become involved in a large-scale military conflict within Europe against an equal adversary in the near future. After years of decline and scarcity with all its consequences, the armed forces in all its components once again have the capacity to grow. This presents the organization of the entire ministry with major challenges in every area. It requires vision, new and different policies that optimally direct and support the armed forces and that direct a smart, strong military that is at the heart of society. You can contribute to this as a senior policy officer at the Directorate-General Policy (DGB).

You will be placed in the newly established DGB Policy Expertise Pool and will work from there at the Directorate Strategy and Knowledge (DSK) and specifically within the Resilience department.

The objective of the DSK is to realize and steer integral vision formation and strategy development: the long-term future and the strategy to get there. For proper embedding and safeguarding, DSK is also responsible for strategic knowledge & innovation policy (departmental, interdepartmental, and international) and overarching stakeholder engagement.

As a policy officer, you are responsible for policy preparation and development, decision-making, policy implementation and execution, policy evaluation, and monitoring within the Resilience department.

The Resilience Department works on making the Netherlands resilient and strengthening military and societal readiness and the role of Defense in Society. What support does Defense need from society? How do we organize this and what agreements do we make about it? How do we strengthen cooperation and connection with society? And what can society expect back from Defense?

The Resilience department consists of two clusters, on the one hand the Civil-Military Readiness cluster and on the other hand the Defense at the Heart of Society cluster.

This is a temporary position for one year. DGB is currently undergoing a reorganization, whereby DGB will grow by 100 FTEs. This position in principle offers a good starting position to apply for positions that will be created as part of the reorganization.

You know how to translate that energy into effective and sharp policy advice for the execution or for your director, DG, or the ministers.
