Are you very interested in commercial vehicle technology and do you have at least a VMBO-KB degree in the technical direction? Then you can of course work in a car garage, but you can also work for the Army! You will first be trained as a soldier, and then you will immediately start your civil-recognized vocational training as an Allround Technician Vehicles and Mobile Equipment (Commercial Vehicles).

What you will do

As an Automotive Mechanic Soldier, you are one of the technical specialists of the Army. You perform maintenance and repair work on the wheeled vehicles used by the Army, such as trucks, all-terrain vehicles, and armored vehicles, as well as motorcycles and tow trucks. Your work mainly consists of disassembling and assembling components, carrying out repairs, and providing general assistance.

Note: there are multiple start dates per year. After applying, you will receive a personal application file containing a call-up date. Please note: this is a fictional date and therefore not correct. The start date for which you are eligible will only be determined later. This depends, among other things, on the results of the psychological examination, the medical examination, and the security investigation, which are part of the application process. Once all these parts have been successfully completed, your start date will be discussed and confirmed.

Where you will work

Before you start working in the technical service, you will first complete the 10-week Basic Training Royal Netherlands Army (BOKL) in Oirschot, Ermelo, or Assen. Afterwards, you will be trained at one of our repair units. You will be trained as an Allround Technician Vehicles and Mobile Equipment (Commercial Vehicles). This is a level 3 training program and lasts 3 years. You will go to school one day a week for theory. The other days you will learn in practice. Under the supervision of a master craftsman, you will work on Defence vehicles and learn to perform maintenance and repairs. This will not always be in a warm workshop, but also in the rain, snow, cold, somewhere in the forest or heath.
