Job Description

Are you a team player, can you switch gears quickly, and do you describe yourself as stress-resistant? The Air Combat Command is looking for an employee for the Base Air Engineering section at the Volkel Air Base location.

In the role of Base Air Engineer, you will operate within the Air Combat Command from a fixed location, namely Volkel Air Base. In this role, you are responsible for the daily management and projects of defense real estate and infrastructure. As the first point of contact for (urgent) disruptions that affect flight operations, you will take the lead in initiating actions to resolve the disruption as quickly as possible. Furthermore, you will act as the connecting link between the Government Buildings Agency and the users of the air base, with your involvement extending to contributing to solutions for infrastructural challenges faced by users at the airfield.

In addition to these tasks, you will support the department by carrying out administrative work and handling process requests. As a civilian employee, you will be given the space and responsibility to plan and execute a significant portion of your work independently. You will report to the Officer at the location.

Job Requirements

• You have at least a completed MBO-4 or HBO education (preferably in the direction of Construction or Civil Engineering);
• You have an affinity with technical work;
• You have a strong sense of responsibility;
• You are a strong communicator and think in terms of possibilities;
• You have the ability to organize well, think analytically, and remain effective and focused even in stressful situations;
• You master the Dutch language in word and writing.

Other Employment Conditions

In addition to your salary, you will receive an Individual Choice Budget (IKB). The IKB consists of money (16.33% of your gross annual salary) and time. With the IKB, you make the choices that suit you and can partly assemble your employment conditions yourself. For example, you can choose to have a portion of your monthly income paid out when you wish. You can also convert this budget into leave and vice versa, or spend it on fiscally advantageous goals. Volkel Air Base is a Dutch F-35 base. Volkel Air Base, together with Leeuwarden Air Base and the Air Operations Control Station in Nieuw Millingen, is part of the Air Combat Command.

Base Air Engineering ACC

The base air engineers of ACC Infra are the “military engineering (MILENG) support to air operations” of the Air Combat Command. We explore, plan, build, and manage operational infrastructure for both home base and out-of-area operations. ACC Infra specializes in operational infrastructure for fixed-wing operations with tactical fighter aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles. This specialization can be summarized in five central tasks:

• Open and establish the airbase; all tasks during a predeployment focused on specifying, designing, and building the operational infrastructure required for the deployment of TFA and/or UAV.
• Maintain and improve the airbase; MILENG tasks during a (home base) deployment focused on repairing non-kinetic damage to, or improving operational infrastructure.
• Recover the airbase; MILENG tasks during a (home base) deployment focused on recovering command and control and freedom of movement at the airbase following kinetic damage.
• Rapid Airfield Damage Recovery (RADR); MILENG tasks during a (home base) deployment focused on repairing kinetic damage to operational infrastructure.
• Dismantle and handover the airbase; MILENG tasks focused on dismantling and handing over the airbase.

We also provide ACC units with specialist knowledge about terrain and infrastructure within their assigned Areas of Responsibility (AOR). For this, we work closely with our partners from the Royal Netherlands Army Corps of Engineers, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Defense (EODD), Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO), the Government Buildings Agency, and local contractors.
