Job description

Introduction

We are looking for new colleagues! Migrando is a Legal Tech company from Cottbus. We have made it our mission to make the complicated and lengthy naturalization process more efficient and customer-friendly. With our expertise in immigration law, our legal competence, and a strong team of numerous employees, we successfully guide thousands of clients on their path to German citizenship. It's best to get an insight right away at migrando(.)de/karriere, our career page. Because we can write whatever we want here, in the end it remains a boring introduction.

We don't care what certificates you have or where you studied. What interests us: What can you really do? Those who have worked in practice for years and gained hands-on experience bring more than any course completion. For us, what matters most is what you can really do in practice — your many years of relevant experience. Formal degrees and certificates are secondary if your skills are convincing.

What we offer you

With us, you will bear real responsibility for the technical foundation on which everything is built. No isolated task ticking — you will actively shape how our systems function and communicate from the very beginning.

  • Free choice of tools
Docker Desktop, Supabase, N8N, Hubspot API, WordPress – you work with the stack that gets the job done. And if you know a better tool, we want to hear about it.
  • High-end hardware of your choice
Whether it's a MacBook Pro or a Windows tower. You'll get the machine on which you perform best, including 4K monitors.
  • Real influence on the architecture
You decide which technologies we use, how interfaces are structured, and what our technical ecosystem will look like in the long term.
  • Small teams instead of open-plan offices
You work in manageable teams where people know each other and can quickly get into conversation.
  • Music at work
We don't frown when you put on headphones. If it helps you (and doesn't bother anyone else), you can also pump heavy metal through a sound system at your desk.
  • Modern old building office in the heart of Cottbus
High ceilings, plenty of natural light, plants in the rooms, and a courtyard for breaks. You can get a glimpse of our premises on our website.
  • Ergonomic workspace with modern equipment
Back-friendly chair, height-adjustable desk, two large monitors, a high-quality headset, a powerful laptop, and a quiet environment.
  • Home office option
We generally work in the office because collaboration and exchange on-site are important to us. At the same time, home office is possible at any time. Even spontaneously and without long coordination.
  • Trust-based working hours without core hours
We don't have prescribed time slots in which you have to be present.
  • Flexible part-time models
Whether it's a 4-day week, 30 hours, or an individual model. Your job should fit your life, not the other way around.
  • Take spontaneous leave
Sometimes you just need a break. We plan our teams so that spontaneous days off are also possible, without stress or guilt.
  • Family-friendly culture
Sick children, parent-teacher evenings, or short-notice doctor's appointments – we know that such situations are part of everyday life. Family and health come first with us.
  • Short communication channels
With us, you don't have to navigate through hierarchies or write long emails to be heard. You can talk directly to colleagues, team leads, or management at any time. Decisions are made quickly, communication is direct, and no one sits in an ivory tower.
  • Shape rather than just execute
We are looking for colleagues who think along. If you have an idea on how a process can be improved, a tool would be useful, or a workflow could function more intelligently, then you will be heard.
  • Meaningful work
Your work has a direct impact on people's lives. You help them to arrive in Germany, find security, and start a new chapter. This is not dry office work — it is work with real meaning and tangible impact.
  • In-house feel-good offers
Our Feel-Good Manager regularly ensures small breaks — from neck and shoulder massages to short relaxation and beauty sessions, to moments to catch your breath.
  • Regular team events
We like to celebrate. Summer party by the lake, cozy Christmas party, Halloween bash, joint lunches, or after-work dinners with the department. Our events ensure that we grow together as a team and can put everyday work aside for a while. But don't worry: attendance is not mandatory, and leaving early is also not a problem.
  • In-house gym
Our own gym is available to you directly in the building — free of charge, well-equipped, and accessible at any time.

Possible areas of responsibility

As a Backend Developer at Migrando, you will build the technical foundations on which our entire ecosystem runs. Our platform consists of several portals, tools, and automations that are used daily by thousands of users. You will work closely with Frontend, Design, SEO, and Automation, ensuring that our systems run stably, securely, and with high performance. Whether it's clean logic in WordPress, working with the Hubspot API, automations in N8N, or high-performance databases in Supabase – you will develop solutions that function and can scale long-term.

  • API Integration & Interface Development
You will integrate external services such as CRM systems, payment providers, or marketing tools, build REST endpoints, and ensure secure, reliable data exchange.
  • Development of New Features
You will build server-side logic and new functionalities — from small plugins to complex modules for our WordPress instances.
  • Collaboration with Frontend
You will coordinate closely with the Frontend team, provide the appropriate endpoints, support deployment, and jointly consider technical improvements.
  • WordPress Development
You will program individual functions for product logic, checkout, order processes, or customer areas.
  • Database Management
You will maintain and optimize databases, structure tables sensibly, improve queries, and keep our data structures clean and performant. Whether it's our website database or a Supabase database with internal data.
  • Performance Optimization
You will work on better loading times (cloud or local network), query optimizations, caching strategies, and an overall faster server architecture.
  • Automation & Background Processes
You will develop cron jobs, automated data processing, N8N or Hubspot workflows, and background processes that make our daily operations more efficient.
  • Further Development of Internal Tools
You will work on small services, modules, and helper processes that advance our platform and our team technically.
  • Hubspot Development
You will deal with developer tools in Hubspot and ensure smooth integration into our existing ecosystem.
  • Evaluation of New Technologies
You are eager to try out new tools, frameworks, or modern WordPress architectures (e.g., headless approaches) and bring them into the team.

Your Profile

With us, degrees or certificates don't count — what matters is that you master your craft and have practical experience in backend development. You know how to build interfaces, optimize databases, and write code that not only performs but is also understood by others. If you are not afraid of responsibility and are eager to actively shape a technical ecosystem, we look forward to getting to know you.

  • Solid Experience in Backend Development
You feel at home in the backend and enjoy developing functions that run reliably, are cleanly structured, and can be easily extended.
  • PHP Skills
You are familiar with modern PHP development, comfortable with OOP and fundamental patterns, and know where it stands today.
  • Handling WordPress
You know how themes and plugins are structured, perhaps even work with hooks, and feel at home in the WP ecosystem.
  • Confident Handling of Databases
You can plan and use database structures sensibly. You know best practices and feel comfortable working with databases.
  • Clean, Well-Structured Code
Readability and architecture are not nice-to-haves for you. You write code that others can still understand in six months — including yourself.
  • Experience in the API Area
You have already worked with REST or comparable interfaces and know how to integrate services, authorize them, and possibly create your own endpoints.
  • Security Focus
You know typical vulnerabilities and how to protect against them (In our case: website vulnerabilities — our internal tools are only available within the network).
  • Data Protection Understanding
We work with sensitive customer data. We expect an awareness of secure storage and processing of this data.
  • Openness to New Things
You are eager to learn new tools or frameworks and to develop yourself professionally.
  • Sense of Responsibility
In your work, you also consider scalability, data integrity, and long-term maintainability. "Quick and dirty" can sometimes be the way — but this should be agreed upon.
  • Easy Communication
You are communicative and open. We don't want to write generic things here, but this point is important. Good collaboration is just as important to us as pure know-how. A colleague with whom collaboration is pleasant and smooth can be more valuable in everyday life than someone with more experience but with whom communication is rather sluggish.
  • German or English
You speak German or English, or preferably both (approx. B2 level). Don't worry, we don't expect proof of language proficiency.
