Backend Developer (m/w/d) PHP PostgreSQL

Pakajo digitalizes the international parcel delivery. With our "Glocal" model, we connect national postal services in 23 countries over 441 corridors, operate consolidated line hauls, and transmit customs data electronically through our own developed Customs Engine. The result: international shipping at nearly national conditions – on average 57% cheaper than classical cross-border shipping. Our customers include leading e-commerce retailers and media houses.

We have grown profitably, bootstrapped started, investor-financed scaling – and are now looking for reinforcement for building our own backend team.

Aufgaben

Your Role

• You develop features for our platform: shipping and fulfillment portal, carrier connections, data imports/exports, and our APIs (CrossBorderX, Return Module).
• You connect new postal services, carriers, and customer systems (REST interfaces, EDI, structured data feeds) – each connection is a small project with visible results.
• You work on the Customs Engine with and set together with the team regulatory requirements (e.g. new EU customs rules).
• You write automated tests, participate in code reviews, and grow professionally – closely accompanied by our Lead Developer.

Qualifikation

Your Profile

• Degree or equivalent education in the field of computer science, media informatics, or a related discipline.
• 2-4 years of professional experience in backend development with PHP; first experience with a modern framework (Laravel or Symfony) or the motivation to quickly get started.
• Fundamental knowledge of PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript; experience with JavaScript frameworks like jQuery.
• Basic knowledge of C/C++ and ideally experience with libraries such as ImageMagick graphics library and native network APIs (Berkeley Sockets).
• Good SQL skills, ideally with PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• First experience with REST APIs – whether as provider or consumer.
• Understanding of responsive web design and UX optimization.
• Experience with version control systems (e.g. Git) and agile development methods.
• Pasión for innovative technologies and interest in AI applications.
• Creativity, self-initiative, and the ability to overcome technical challenges; meticulous and reliable work style.
• Team spirit and good communication skills; willingness to learn – we'll teach you about customs and logistics.
• Good German and English language skills.
