Apprenticeship as Ship Mechanic (m/f/d)

With around 600 crew members at sea and approximately 80 employees on land, F. Laeisz shipping company is one of the most traditional German companies in the industry. The management of our ships forms the core of our work – modern, international, and future-oriented.

We are looking for highly motivated apprentices as Ship Mechanic (m/f/d) starting on August 2, 2027, who are interested in seafaring and wish to be trained in an international environment.

Tasks

The apprenticeship as a Ship Mechanic (m/f/d) lasts three years and includes inter-company training at the Maritime Competence Center in Elsfleth, where, in addition to school blocks, you will complete Basic Safety Training and a seven-week metalworking training. During the practical training on board our ships, you will become familiar with all nautical tasks in the deck and engine room areas and learn how the ship and its machinery and systems are maintained and repaired. You will assist in monitoring cargo handling on deck, on watch duty on the bridge, and when docking and undocking the ship. You will participate in safety drills and learn what to do in emergency situations on board.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 16 years
• Good Realschulabschluss, Abitur, or equivalent qualification
• Interest in seafaring, machinery and systems, as well as their repair, maintenance, and upkeep
• Very good German language skills and good to very good English language skills
• Interest in geography is desirable
• Medical certificate for sea service for deck and engine service
• Consent of legal guardians if you are still a minor at the start of the apprenticeship
