Job description

We are recruiting this role on behalf of our client Baygold.

Changing lives for good...

Baygold's purpose is:
“Pursuing the potential in our people and resources. Changing lives for good.”
This purpose captures so much of the DNA of Baygolds family origins as well as their resolve to deliver the best outcomes in the industry into the future. Baygold has big goals for both new orchard development and productive outcomes. The business has grown significantly over the years and delivered incredible outcomes, the team is determined that the best is still to come!

Baygold's Core Values:
  • Care - Valuing all people, building strong relationships and supporting the community.
  • Inspire - Including, collaborating and engaging hearts and minds for excellence.
  • Perform - Striving for the best, celebrating and rewarding achievement.
  • Grow - Creating opportunities, learning and innovating for a sustainable future.
We are looking for one or two new atom operators to join the team. These roles are critical to ensuring orchards perform at the very top of industry!

About the Role
Baygold's atom operators have plenty of work cut out for them. Across nearly 500 hectares you'll join a team of experienced operators.

Baygold's base known as 'The Station' is on the corner of SH2 & Maniatutu Rd, Pongakawa. The Station is approx. 15 minutes drive from Papamoa or 12 minutes drive from Te Puke. Worksites are mostly within 30-40 minutes of The Station, however some worksites can be more than an hour away.

While you'll be trained up on the Baygold way, it's expected you will have experience operating Atom sprayers.

Your key accountabilities will be:
  • Working with the machinery team and orchard managers to ensure all sprays are applied correctly and at the right time.
  • Operating Atom sprayers for significant chunks of the year, and then contributing by operating other machinery when spraying workload is low (ie during harvest).
  • Ensuring reporting is timely and accurate on spraying activities and work that's been completed.
  • Keeping the team up to date with any maintainance requirements from your checks of the vehicles.
  • Ensuring your safety and the safety of everyone around you in everything you do.
  • Some other general duties when required if the above is a bit quieter!
Are you the one we are looking for?
For these roles we really do need people who have operated Atom sprayers before. But at Baygold it's not just about the technical skill. You'll also be:
  • Practical thinking: This role requires a good level of practical skills and practical mind. You'll have experience working with your hands and using your mind to ensure you get the job done right. You'll have good spatial awareness and awareness of what is happening around you.
  • Comfortable with long hours: There are parts of the year where 60hrs/wk can be normal. You'll be comfortable pushing through when you're needed. Minimum hours are 30 when things are quieter, but there are often other duties to jump into.
  • Detail minded: There are systems to support you, but it's essential you are present minded and have an eye for detail. The right sprays at the right time underpin incredible orchard performance. On the flipside, mistakes can be very destructive!
  • Qualified: Ideally you'll have a class 4 license and Grosafe accreditation.
  • Values fit: The Baygold team are easy going, hard working and there's no big egos. You'll be good to work with and have a positive attitude. You'll also be dependable, these teams rely on people who show up and do the work.
If you have experience with Atom's and want to join a team with an amazing culture and a purpose that goes well beyond themselves, this could be an opportunity you'll be glad you took!
