Description of the position

The Capital Markets and Factorial Placement (CMF) department invests globally in listed stocks, fixed-income securities, currencies, commodities, and derivatives. It also manages relationships with external placement managers and co-investments in public markets. We are currently recruiting a senior associate to join the External Portfolio Management (EPM) team based in Toronto.

EPM is a group within CMF responsible for allocating capital to external fund managers in public markets, covering all styles of negotiation, asset categories, and geographic zones. The team manages a portfolio of externally managed funds and separate accounts, and collaborates with over 60 of the world's top hedge fund managers. EPM establishes long-term partnerships, regardless of the underlying strategies being short- or long-term. The team also conducts co-investments with these fund managers.

Reporting to the general manager, the senior associate will play a central role in researching, tracking, and managing partnerships with hedge funds in fundamental strategies (stocks and credit). They will also support co-investment activities, including conducting due diligence and continuous portfolio monitoring. They will prepare investment recommendation documents for new opportunities and ensure proactive surveillance of the portfolio. Finally, they will contribute to evaluating investment proposals in hedge funds through various strategies and styles.

  • Participate in meetings and calls with current and potential partners; prepare agendas and write minutes.
  • Maintain active communications with external managers to gather relevant information.
  • Synthesize key insights for portfolio managers and the EPM team.
