Assistant Safety & Security Manager

The President Hotel is entering an exciting phase of growth and transformation, and we are creating a new opportunity for an Assistant Security Manager to join our leadership team.

This is a management position, not a security guard role, suited to a highly skilled professional with experience in large-scale hotel or hospitality operations. Reporting to the Director of Safety & Security, the Assistant Security Manager will support in overseeing all aspects of safety, security, and emergency response at our fast-paced, high-volume 349-room hotel. The role ensures the protection of guests, staff, and assets through proactive risk management, regulatory compliance, incident prevention, and effective team leadership.

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in security operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or assistant management role within hospitality or a similar high-volume environment

• PSIRA registered with Grade B (minimum); Grade A preferred

• Formal qualification in Occupational Health & Safety (SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, or equivalent)

• Certification in First Aid Level 3, Fire Fighting, and Evacuation Coordination (advantageous)

• Excellent knowledge of South African security laws, OHSA, PSIRA, POPIA, and fire safety regulations

• Strong leadership, organisational, and conflict resolution skills

• Working knowledge of risk assessment, fire prevention systems, access control technologies, and emergency management procedures

• Familiarity with POPIA compliance and contractor safety induction processes

• Ability to work shifts, weekends, and be on-call as required

• South African citizen with a valid ID

• Assist in daily oversight and implementation of all hotel security operations and safety procedures

• Provide leadership to security staff (in-house and outsourced), ensuring discipline, grooming, and compliance with KPIs

• Act as incident commander in the absence of the Director during emergencies

• Conduct regular risk assessments, patrols, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations

• Investigate guest, staff, and contractor incidents, compile reports, and implement corrective actions

• Coordinate evacuation drills, fire equipment inspections, and safety briefings

• Oversee access control, surveillance (CCTV) monitoring, and contractor compliance

• Support Heads of Department in disciplinary processes involving security breaches or misconduct

• Build positive relationships with SAPS, Fire & Rescue, EMS, and private response partners

• Ensure discreet, guest-focused security presence with emphasis on hospitality service

• Act as liaison for VVIP guests, delegations, and events, ensuring tailored security and privacy protocols

• Support the implementation of the hotel’s Health & Safety Management System (OHSA, ISO 45001)

• Maintain accurate incident logs, HIRA reports, and IOD records

• Conduct contractor safety inductions and toolbox talks

• Mentor staff through safety campaigns, refresher training, and emergency preparedness exercises

• This is not a security guard position – it is a managerial role within hotel operations
