This role offers full project lifecycle exposure across a diverse portfolio of regional projects and is ideal for an ambitious individual looking to develop quickly within a supportive, senior-led team environment.

The position is suitable for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor with 1-2 years’ experience or a recent graduate seeking their first role in consultancy. Candidates from a variety of construction backgrounds and sectors are encouraged to apply.

CLIENT

Our client is a well-established and expanding multidisciplinary construction consultancy and developer operating across multiple sectors within the built environment.

The York office is a key growth hub within the business and offers an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative, high-calibre team with ambitious plans for the future. The organisation places strong emphasis on professional development, mentoring, and long-term career progression.

The role provides exposure across both pre- and post-contract stages and a varied project portfolio, including residential (housing and high-rise), education, and local authority schemes. The majority of projects are regionally based, primarily across Yorkshire.

This opportunity is well suited to individuals with 1-2 years’ post-graduate experience as well as graduates looking to begin their quantity surveying career, with strong support and mentoring available from an experienced senior team.

  • Assisting with cost planning, budgeting, and financial reporting
  • Supporting procurement processes, including tender documentation and analysis
  • Assisting with contractor valuations, variations, and final accounts
  • Monitoring project costs, cash flow, and commercial performance
  • Supporting contract administration under JCT and NEC forms
  • Liaising with clients, contractors, and consultants
  • Attending project and internal team meetings
  • Providing accurate and timely financial information to stakeholders
  • Maintaining a proactive, professional, and detail-focused approach

PERSON

The successful Assistant Quantity Surveyor is likely to demonstrate:

  • A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related built environment discipline (or working towards one)
  • 1-2 years’ experience in a construction, consultancy, or contractor environment, or a strong academic background as a recent graduate
  • Applicants welcomed from a range of sectors, including residential, commercial, infrastructure, housing, consultancy, or contractor backgrounds
  • Awareness of JCT and/or NEC contracts (desirable)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A professional, personable, and confident manner
  • A positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and strong work ethic
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Competency with Microsoft Office software
  • Personality and attitude are key - our client is open to individuals from different backgrounds who demonstrate the right approach and motivation to develop within a consultancy environment.

REMUNERATION

In return, our client offers a competitive and supportive package, including:

  • Competitive salary, dependent on experience
  • Structured mentoring and strong APC support
  • Office-based role initially, with hybrid working (2-3 days from home) following probation
  • Three-month probation period
  • Electric car salary sacrifice scheme
  • Free on-site parking
  • Supportive, senior-led team environment
