Kendrick Recruitment is currently seeking a dynamic and commercially driven Assistant General Manager for a luxury health and fitness club based in Durban.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced hospitality or club management professional who is passionate about wellness, exceptional service and operational excellence. The successful candidate will support the overall management of the club, ensuring exceptional member experiences while driving commercial success and leading a high-performing team.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial & Financial Management

Support the overall operational and commercial performance of the club.

Drive revenue growth, profitability and member retention.

Manage club budgets, operating expenses and financial performance.

Oversee ancillary revenue streams and maximise commercial opportunities.

Assist with capital projects and monitor return on investment.

Ensure compliance with company standards, procedures and audit requirements.

Club Operations & Facility Management

Ensure the club consistently delivers a premium wellness experience.

Oversee daily operations, maintenance and facility presentation.

Ensure health, safety and operational standards are maintained.

Monitor preventative maintenance programmes and contractor performance.

Maintain brand standards throughout the facility.

Leadership & People Management

Recruit, mentor and develop high-performing teams.

Foster a positive, engaging and service-focused workplace culture.

Manage staff performance, coaching and development.

Ensure effective communication across all departments.

Oversee compliance with company policies, procedures and HR practices.

Deliver exceptional member service and create memorable experiences.

Build strong relationships with members through visible leadership.

Resolve member concerns professionally and efficiently.

Oversee wellness programmes and member engagement initiatives.

Ensure service standards consistently exceed expectations.

Business Development & Reporting

Monitor competitor activity and market trends.

Identify opportunities to improve business performance.

Prepare operational and financial reports for senior management.

Support strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives.

✅ Requirements

Matric (NSC) certificate.

Relevant tertiary qualification in Business, Hospitality, Retail or a related field (NQF 7).

Minimum 6 years' experience as a Club General Manager, Hospitality General Manager or similar leadership role within a premium hospitality, luxury club, country club or retail environment.

Proven commercial acumen and strong financial management skills.

Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong business focus.

Excellent project management skills.

Strong understanding of market trends and competitor analysis.

Proven leadership and people management experience.

Excellent customer service and relationship management skills.

Strong knowledge of HR practices, recruitment, coaching and performance management.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

High level of digital literacy and proficiency with business systems.
