What you will do
Help build the operational power of the Army through optimal deployability of our materiel
Your role: Materiel ready for the future Within the Royal Netherlands Army, it is of great importance that our units can rely on their materiel. It is essential to ensure the materiel availability of the ground-based A and B systems of the Armed Forces, from the requirements definition phase through to the disposal phase. This requires expert management in the areas of projects and maintenance. Within the Army Command (CLAS), the Materiel Availability Section (part of the Materiel & Logistics Department within the Materiel & Services Directorate at Kromhout Barracks in Utrecht) forms the core of this challenging materiel logistical operation.
As a Staff Employee (Asset Manager) Materiel Availability, you will be responsible for the materiel availability of the systems specifically entrusted to you. You will ensure that our soldiers have the best possible materiel by acting as a CLAS representative and client in various defense projects.
What will you do? You will be the point of contact for specific weapon systems and an important discussion partner for parties such as the Defence Staff (DS), COMMIT, DOSCO, and MATLOGCO. You will bridge the gap between operational needs and the actual materiel logistical realization.
Your daily activities will consist of:
- Inventorying, advising on, and monitoring the integral CLAS input as a representative during the realization phase of large Defence materiel projects.
- Acting as the CLAS client in breadth projects, contributing to the requirements definition and strictly controlling the progress of product, time, and budget.
- Functioning as the chairman of the weapon system consultation, where you set priorities, have the system plan drawn up, and optimize materiel availability.
- In consultation, requesting, monitoring, and realizing the multi-year materiel operational budget (MATEX) based on expected developments, standardization sheets, and historical data.
- Performing careful fleet management by determining the correct configurations for missions and continuously optimizing and aligning the quantitative and qualitative use of the systems with the need.
- Guiding the inflow of new systems to the units and analyzing system logistical and chain logistical consequences during specific operational use.
Impact and mandate: In this substantial role, you will have the freedom to make independent decisions regarding project issues and priorities within the system consultations. You will operate in a field with often complex dependencies and interests that transcend defense components. You will identify deviations in a timely manner, proactively make adjustments, and continuously represent the interests of the CLAS. In this responsible position, you will report directly to the section head on the quality of the work you perform.
What we ask
You are a decisive, initiative-taking, and communicatively strong professional with a good understanding of the decision-making processes, system logistics, and chain logistics of the CLAS. You can effortlessly maintain an overview of complex projects, coach and guide employees, and collaborate excellently with various stakeholders.
In addition, you bring the following:
- A completed higher professional education (HBO) and/or relevant academic education, for example, in the direction of business administration, mechanical engineering, or Supply Chain Management.
- Required and demonstrable work experience with system management.
- Good oral and written communication skills in the Dutch language for drafting and assessing advice, reports, and publications.
- Broad knowledge of project planning methods, including Prince2 at a basic level.
- Desired experience with planning and decision-making processes in a support staff, as well as experience in the (preferably operational) Matlog domain and affinity with systems such as SAP.
