Mid and Senior Texture Artist

Job Description:

The Texture Artist is responsible for creating realistic or stylized textures for a wide variety of objects and surfaces, in accordance with artistic, technical, and performance requirements specific to Rodeo FX. He/she works closely with the assets, shading, lookdev, and lighting teams to ensure a smooth integration into the pipeline and contribute to the final quality of delivered plans. Autonomous and rigorous, he/she is also a team player engaged in continuous learning and evolution of their craft.

Main Responsibilities:

Mastery of One's Craft

  • Create high-quality textures from photographic references, scans, digital paintings, or generative materials.
  • Adapt textures to specific object constraints (organic, hard surface, props, environments) and pipeline requirements.
  • Maintain a rigorous approach to work, with constant attention to clarity, readability, and organization.
  • Respect deadlines, priorities, and established deliverables with the production team.

Creative Quality

  • Interpret visual references provided and propose relevant and inspired artistic choices.
  • Ensure textures contribute effectively to the visual coherence of assets and plans.
  • Retail details, variations, and visual richness according to project style.
  • Remain attentive to artistic feedback and respond with openness and professionalism.

Technical Quality

  • Produce optimized, technically sound, and production-ready textures.
  • Understand the interaction between textures, shaders, and lighting in different contexts (e.g., lookdev, lighting, rendering).
  • Participate in texture integration into the pipeline, respecting naming conventions and resolution standards.
  • Detect and resolve technical issues related to UVs, displacements, tiling, color space, etc.

Communication

  • Maintain a fluid dialogue with lookdev, shading, modeling, lighting artists, as well as supervisors.
  • Signal quickly any issues or bottlenecks that may affect quality or deadlines.
  • Document technical and artistic choices when they deviate from standards.
  • Participate actively in dailies and team reviews with a constructive attitude.

Learn, Share, and Evolve

  • Stay up-to-date on emerging texturing techniques and tools.
  • Share best practices and discoveries with colleagues.
  • Contribute to improving departmental tools and processes.
  • Acknowledge feedback as a catalyst for continuous improvement.
