Smarten AI is start-up company developing an intelligent, modular smart waste tracking system designed to revolutionize public recycling habits and improve urban material recovery. By combining geotagged bin sensors, AI-driven waste classification, user-friendly QR code interactions, and a blockchain-backed rewards system, the smart bin incentivizes correct recycling behaviour and enables traceable material flows at scale. Unlike traditional recycling solutions, our low-cost sensor casings wrap around existing public bins and reward users with blockchain-issued digital tokens for correct waste disposal. Our platform provides real-time bin fullness data, predictive maintenance alerts, and accurate material flow maps, engaging the public through gamified features and preparing for regulatory alignment.

Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for an Artificial Intelligence Co-Founder located in Birmingham. The Co-Founder will be involved in strategic planning, overseeing AI and tech development, and coordinating the pilot of the system in collaboration with Birmingham City Council. The Co-Founder will also engage with recycling companies, support the development of the blockchain-backed reward system, and help build a robust early-stage material recovery supply chain. Daily tasks include leading the AI research and development, and ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements.

• Passion for sustainability, circular economy, and emerging technologies
• Experience working in or with early-stage start-ups or R&D teams
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in AI, Computer Science, or related field
