Application Engineer (m/f/d) - Plastics Processes
Job description
plus10 is a Fraunhofer IPA spin-off. Our AI tool Hopper optimizes injection molding processes in real-time — less scrap, shorter cycle times, faster setup.
Hopper helps customers mitigate the shortage of skilled workers, process technical plastics and recyclates stably, and systematically leverage production knowledge.
An established product in daily use by renowned customers from medical technology, automotive, and consumer goods.
Tasks
TECHNICAL IMPLEMENTATION AT THE CUSTOMER'S SITE
- Technical requirements gathering on-site: machine configuration, data availability, OT connection
- Coordination of the connection of machine controls and OPC UA interfaces
- Configuration of Hopper for the respective process (material, machine, quality goals)
- Briefing and training of machine setters, shift supervisors, and process engineers
- Handover to stable operation and ongoing technical support
PROJECT COORDINATION
- Independent management of ongoing Hopper implementation projects
FEEDBACK & PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
- Structured communication of customer requirements to the development team
- Translation of shop floor feedback into concrete feature requests
Perspective: With growing project experience, there is the opportunity to gradually take on overall technical responsibility for Hopper.
Qualifications
- Completed degree in Plastics Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, or similar — or a technician's training with corresponding professional experience
- Experience in plastics processing, especially injection molding — setup, optimization, error diagnosis
- Experience with at least one common injection molding machine control system (e.g., Arburg Selogica/Gestica, Engel CC300, Demag NC5)
- Basic understanding of industrial OT environments: OPC UA, machine data, and edge devices (no programming skills required)
- Experience in coordinating technical projects, structured, independent way of working
- Fluent German, English B2 (company language)
- Willingness to travel approx. 10–20% (Germany + EU)
NICE-TO-HAVE
- Experience with extrusion processes
- Knowledge in data analysis or industrial software implementations
- Proficient use of AI tools like Claude or ChatGPT in everyday work
