API Integration Engineer

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Permanent COMPANY: A large retail chain based in Cape Town. LOCATION: Belville, Cape Town WORKING MODEL: Hybrid (2 days remote, 3 days in office) JOB OVERVIEW: As an Intermediate API Integration Engineer, you'll play a key role in shaping core business capabilities through the design, development, and maintenance of high-performance APIs and seamless integrations. You'll collaborate closely with development, technical support, and business teams to deliver scalable and secure solutions that meet business needs. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: * Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs and integrations. * Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, define API specifications, and ensure alignment with business objectives. * Implement and maintain API security measures, including authentication, authorization, and data validation. * Monitor API performance, identify and resolve issues, and optimize for scalability and efficiency. * Develop and maintain API documentation, including specifications, usage guides, and troubleshooting instructions. * Participate in code reviews and contribute to the improvement of coding standards and best practices. * Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies related to API development and integration. * Troubleshoot and resolve API-related issues, including identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions. * Collaborate with technical support to ensure smooth integration of APIs with other systems. * Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to deployment and maintenance. QUALIFICATIONS: * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. * Proven experience in designing, developing, and deploying APIs using RESTful principles. * Strong understanding of API security best practices, including authentication, authorization, and data validation. * Experience with API gateway technologies and API management platforms. * Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Node.js. * Experience with database technologies such as SQL and NoSQL. * Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP. * Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, including CI/CD pipelines. * Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team. * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. * Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
